McCain

For those who love McCain....do you realize he's only shown up for 50% of the votes in Congress? He said that he'd be sure and be there for the 'important' ones!!!

I don't think his people voted him in office under that premise.

Just think if...IF...he got to be prez...he'd only be there 50% of the time. As loopy as he's getting....that'd be a good thing!

I've tried to look at McCain for president and I just can't get over his using the f word to another congressman and I think he has a vile temper.
I do have alot of respect for his service to our country and that he is a P.O.W. There is just something about him that doesn't sit well with me...

Yeah, "You're Fired"!

Have any of you heard the Nixon tapes? That guy could swear like a lumberjack!

LBJ's tapes too... If you didn't know better, you'd think you were listening to a mafia Don rather than a US President....

Is that a lifetime record of 50% or a recent one? Not condone it either way, just curious if it was because of him running for President and being on the campaign trail or if he has had that same record all along while in Washington?

I am not a McCain fan, unless it came down to McCain and Hillary and then I guess I will have to chose him, but no way I would consider him before a few others.

If I remember right it was the voting record since the war in Iraq began. I'd say they used that as a starting point since that's his 'push button' topic it seems.

Either way, life time or not....pretty sorry record!

Hate to try the same joke again, but Teddy Kennedy has gotten a pretty sorry record BY voting. Maybe he and McCain need to pick up some of the others habits....

He was on the list also....but McCain had them all beat.

I'll see if I can re-find that list again in my history on the 'puter.

There were about 5 senators but McCain was the only one running for President!

Sounds a bit like our Governor in this state when he was running for Gov... I think his record was just god awful for being their for votes.. Of course, he is only at the capital 2 or 3 times a week now anyways. The only reason he got elected is because he had the D next to his name on the ballet.. All it taks with the state of the Republican party in this state..

It actually is amazing what some of the voting records have been for senetors and reps over the years.. Sometimes they have good excuses for a short time of it (Health) but other times.. Yikes...

I have not found any lifetime results but what I found was McCain has missed 49.2% of the votes in the current 110th congress. That would mean in the last 5 months.

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/110/senate/vote-missers/

109th congress he missed 9% .

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/109/senate/vote-missers/

108th congress he only missed 1.8% of the vote which is pretty exemplary. Same congress Kerry missed 72%

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/108/senate/vote-missers/

107th Congress McCain missed 5.2% another good year

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/107/senate/vote-missers/

106th Congress 29% missed

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/106/senate/vote-missers/

105th Congress 3% missed

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/105/senate/vote-missers/

104th Congress 3% missed

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/104/senate/vote-missers/

103rd Congress 4.8% missed

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/103/senate/vote-missers/

102nd Congress 2% missed.

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/102/senate/vote-missers/

In summery we received a little miss information here from what I see. Overall as far as I could find on the 102nd to 110th congress McCain has not had a bad voting record. He has had a bad one in last couple months which make his average look bad for this recent 5 month old congress. But considering all the crap the Dem's have been putting forward to vote on and knowing the president would just veto them or they had no chance of passing. I think I would miss the votes and concentrate on my election also.

I bet if you look you will find he missed the stupid go nowhere votes in the last couple months that really had no affect on anything. How many non binding bills should a person waste time on anyway?

I am not a McCain fan, but I like to be fair and look at things objectively!

All of your links are pointing out it is the last few months only that he has missed votes. 110th Congress is only 5 months old, and all president candidates miss votes during election years. I am sure Hillary and Obama have better records because they want to be there to make sure they support all the stupid legislation that their party is putting up for votes.

I would not care if he went fishing instead of showing up to vote on all the non binding bills.

It is easy to cherry pick a point and show links, it takes balanced view to really see if there really is anything to it. McCain has a great voting record and only dipped in the times that he ran for President. And this current time is of very little concern because of all the non binding, go nowhere legislation that has been before the senate to vote on.

You are trying to make a bid deal out of something that really is not a big deal. The biggest concern we have is that people like Kennedy, Pelosi, Murtha and Kerry are not missing their voting opportunities. The fact they are voting scares me a lot more than some president candidates voting % in a couple month period when most legislation was non binding and it made no difference one way or another rather he was there or not.

To Quote from your sources.

---While touring Iowa by bus, he missed a March 15 series of votes that took nonbinding stands on whether U.S. Iraq policy needed to be revised and how vocal Congress should be in setting goals for the war.

---McCain aides said he missed only symbolic votes on Iraq and made it back for more important ones.

---Normally, he votes regularly, rarely missing more than 5 percent of roll calls taken, the Republic's analysis found.

Aminus....read the bold script. I never gave a time line in my post!

My point is that the people he works for didn't hire him to be a butterfly and flit in and out. Would you want an employee of yours only showing up on days he got paid instead of every day whether you needed him that day or not????
