Presidential nominee, Senator John McCain apparently suffered a stroke Sunday while speaking at the Hatfield Memorial Center. The Senator seemed to lose concentration, became confused and seemed unsteady on his feet. Two campaign aides came onto the stage and spoke to the Senator. One of them escorted the Senator offstage.
The other aide, Tom Jones, took the microphone and reassured the crowd that Senator McCain was fine. Jones said McCain had been busy preparing for the upcoming debate and had not taken his normal sleeping aid, Ambien.
Jones thanked the crowd of about 300 people for coming. He reminded them that Senator McCain’s running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, was capable and ready to step into McCain’s shoes in the face of the country’s worsening financial crisis. He stressed Palin’s strong traditional Republican values, field dressing a moose and being able to wink and lie at the same time.
The campaign didn’t respond to follow up media inquiries about the Senator’s health.
