Merger Announcement

Today, the NCBA and AMI have announced the merger of their two organizations to form NACBIMA. In a joint statement they said, “The AMI has continually fought for the profitability of US packers. We have lobbied hard and "contributed" heavily to the political coffers in Washington so that the profitability of US packers is at the forefront of agricultural policy. Thru our efforts and “contributions”, we have held off COOL and have had the government open up trade agreements with beef exporting countries so that we can bypass US producers, or at least leverage cattle prices down with those other suppliers, and we can also pass the beef off as US product. We have had the Packers and Stockyards Act virtually gutted to where it is no longer a hindrance and are fighting daily any price reporting requirements that would bring any transparency to the marketplace.

Thru our efforts, private testing for BSE has been blocked, and we are confident Japanese consumers will soon forget our bullying and threats to them and will soon be enjoying a daily bowl of rice and US beef (or beef from any country we can get a good deal on and pass off as US). We have had the USDA abandon policy designed to protect US consumers and producers in favor of a policy that enhances our checkbooks.

As can be seen, the AMI has done a very good job of bringing the USDA to “see things our way”, and we look to continuing this profitable relationship. We very much appreciate the hotline directly linking Mike Johann’s office with our boardroom and use it often.

As the NCBA believes that whatever is good for the large multi-national packers is automatically good for US producers, we have decided to merge with the AMI to eliminate redundancies. Since our policies always mirrored theirs anyway, it just makes sense for us all to be under one roof. In the old days, the AMI told the USDA what to do, they did it, and the NCBA issued a release supporting the USDA. Now, a step will be eliminated and the process will be smoother and shorter. We've been in bed together for quite some time, we felt it made sense to get married and quit living in sin.”
