Feathers that fell from a snow angel, snow joke
GoodwaytogetextraVitaminAintocows.jpg

Good way to give an extra jolt of Vitamin A into cows, right before calving. Each pound has 50,000 units of added Vitamin A.
Four pounds of cake is like giving four c.c.'s of vaccine. Our cows are fed two pounds one day and two pounds again another day.
This seems to be easier on their system than giving Vitamin A in vaccination form.

Trap door that Sparky built on my caker. This works when filling from an overhead bin that is not tall enough otherwise
to accomodate this particular caker.

Why the need to supplement Vitamin A?

Our cattle seldom see any alfalfa, except for what I buy. In the past we've had Vitamin A deficient calves born. They can be blind and just generally not do well. Back in the 1980's, I gave a Vitamin A vaccination to pregnant cows. Twelve head went into shock, and four of these ended up aborting their calves. By giving this special cake, it is a lot more "user friendly." I look at it as just a form of insurance.

I supplement with vit A in crumble form also, dry hay all winter with very little Alfalfa content also, the calves just seem healthier.
