Military Losses, 1980 thru 2007

Whatever your politics, however you lean, however you feel about the current
administration, this report should open some eyes.

Military losses, 1980 through 2006 (ttp://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/RL32492.pdf)

As tragic as the loss of any member of the US Armed Forces is, consider
the following statistics:

The annual fatalities of military members while actively serving in the armed forces from 1980 through 2006:

1980 .......... 2,392 (Carter Year)
1981 .......... 2,380 (Reagan Year)
1984 .......... 1,999 (Reagan Year)
1988 .......... 1,819 (Reagan Year)
1989 .......... 1,636 (George H W Year)
1990 .......... 1,508 (George H W Year)

1991 .......... 1,787 (George H W Year)
1992 …….. 1,293 (George H W Year)
1993 .......... 1,213 ( Clinton Year)
1994 ……...1,075 ( Clinton Year)
1995 .......... 2,465 ( Clinton Year)
1996 ......... . 2,318 ( Clinton Year)
1997 ............. 817 ( Clinton Year)
1998 .......... 2,252 ( Clinton Year)
1999 .......... 1,984 ( Clinton Year)
2000 ..........1,983 ( Clinton Year)
2001 ……… 890(George W Year)
2002 .......... 1,007 (George W Year)
2003 …….. 1,410 (George W Year)
2004 .......... 1,887 (George W Year)
2005 ............. 919 (George W Year)
2006.............. 920 (George W Year)
2007...............899 (George W Year)

Clinton years (1993-2000): 14,000 deaths
George W years (2001-2007): 7,932 deaths

If you are surprised when you look at these figures, so was I. These figures mean that the loss from the two latest conflicts in the Middle East are LESS than the loss of military personnel during earlier presidencies; when America wasn't even involved in a war!

It surprised me too, so I went on line to find out what military actions we were in during Clinton ¢s presidency. Here is a web site I found that lists out those conflicts. (not war)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_actions_by_or_within_the_United_States#1991-1999

And, I was even more shocked when I read that in 1980, during the reign of
President (Nobel Peace Prize winner) Jimmy Carter, there were 2,392
US military fatalities! I think that these figures indicate that many members of our Media and our Politicians will pick and choose the information on which they report. Of course we all know that they present only those 'facts' which support their agenda-driven reporting. But why do so many of them march in lock-step to
twist the truth? Where do so man y of them get their marching-orders for
their agenda? Obviously there is one shared agenda, and I believe it is
clear it comes from the most powerful Democratic family of the decade.

Do you want further proof? Consider the latest census, of Americans. It
shows the following FACTS about the distribution of American citizens, by
Race:
European descent ..........................69.12%
Hispanic ......................................... 12.5%
Black ................................................12.3%
Asian ................................................. 3.7%
Native American ..............................1.0%
Other ..................................................2.6%

Now... here are the fatalities by Race; over the past three years in Iraqi Freedom:
European descent (white) .............74.31%
Hispanic ......................................... 10.74%
Black ... ............................................. 9.67%
Asian ................................................. 1.81%
Native American ............................... 1.09%
Other ............................................ …..0.33%

It was surprised again. . .until it became clear to me that the point here is
that our mainstream media continues to spin these figures (for political
gain). Nothing more.

It's all about politics and some politicians, are now famous for turning
American against American for a vote. (Consider Slick Willy and his comments
just recently made about South Carolina , Jesse Jackson, and the 'blacks'
voting for the 'black' candidates); or Hillary's stump speech after her Super
Tuesday 'victory' stating that the current administration does not 'listen'
to anyone and continues the war costing precious American lives. Yes, I
might even agree with her, but she should be made to acknowledge her own
husband's administration, without having an actual war, sent more soldiers to
death during his regime-while also forcing the military to release Osama when
we actually had him detained.

During the time between now and November, hopefully intelligent
Americans can decipher the facts from the spin and the spinners from the
leaders; those who seek even more power from those that seek justice, the
dividers from the uniters.

Over the next months let's be good listeners and see and hear who tries to divide our nation;

and who wants to unite our
nation. Who wants to control how our money is spent and who wants our money
spent the way we would spend it. Who seeks power and who seeks justice?
Who spins the facts and who is genuine.

(These statistics are published by Cong ressional Research Service, and they
may be confirmed by anyone at: http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/ RL32492.pdf)

Thanks SW. This is interesting. Bet we have very few comments from the resident libs here.

What is really interesting is that Clinton sent troops to Africa several times but failed to send troops to Rawanda (Africa) to stop the slaughter of est. 500,000 people, exactly where they were needed the most.

But that's OK. He apologized.

My problem and the problem of many- is how this is verifiable-- when you have an administration that has been caught in so many lies and that makes a habit of false reporting and false statistics- you have to wonder...

Some of their reports on military injured has been on "military action" only- while thousands that were injured in what they term "non-military"action (vehicle/aircraft accidents, work injuries, PTSD, etc) have not been...The reason Congress/VA has been surprised and overwhelmed with the number of folks actually showing up for treatment.....
Much like both Clinton and GW have done with the inflation figures that were running 4-5% and reported at under 2% for years  -- while like last year, GW and crew reported 2%- this states and many conservative economists were finding actual figures closer to 10%....

The numbers are only as good as the credibility of the data inputted-- and GW lost all credibility long ago with most in this country.... :( :(

Where were all the protestors

supporting our troops..

The police said the explosive device involved in the Times Square blast this morning was “roughly similar” to the devices used in two earlier bombings in Manhattan, in 2005 and 2007, The device had been placed in an ammunition box like the kind that can be bought at a military supply store. Officials said that in today’s attack, a man bundled in a gray hooded jacket or sweatshirt and wearing a backpack was seen riding a bicycle around the recruiting station and acting suspiciously moments before the explosion. Video footage from a surveillance camera showed a bicyclist dismounting, approaching the recruitment center, then returning to the bike and riding away before the explosion occurs.

And shortly after this occurred today GW took the airwaves to commemorate the anniversary of the formation of the Department of Homeland Security...During which he explained how He and Homeland Security Dept. had shut off the flow of all the persons illegally entering our country to do us evil- and had tracked those down that were illegally in the country- and tightened the port inspections, blah, blah , blah-- and it was all I could do to keep from puking :gag:

Either he is the biggest liar in the country-- or his handlers are feeding him some good "sh*t" to smoke....

while the "terrorist" in New York hasn't been caught,.. he appears to be a homegrown "protester" from this country...

but I would also like to see more done to secure our borders..

In refreance to Silvers link.. In the Military every thing is classified into a category.. even how a soldier dies..

but for the family at home.. dead is not coming home alive.

it doesn't matter how the person death is classified, categorized by a statistician at some military post.. but when looking at how many died.. breaking it in to categories doesn't change the whole number of soldiers that passed away.. as one death is to many..

every President and the congress should do everything in their power to bring all our soldiers home safely..

Nothing, absolutely nothing makes me madder than to see you bozos use the American solider as a tool to excuse George W. Bush's incompetence and lies.
You claim:

2004 .......... 1,887 (George W Year)
2005 ............. 919 (George W Year)
2006.............. 920 (George W Year)

These figures are outright lies. From your own link, here are the figures:

2004 - 1,874
2005 - 1,942
2006 - 1,858
2007 - not posted yet

While we've been "winning" in Iraq, deaths have gone up from 999 in 2002 to 1,858 in 2006. Shame on you for misrepresenting the deaths of these men for political purposes.

Thanks for bringing to our attention. Now..............

Do you have figures for the number of people worldwide who died from genocide, etc. because of our President's past/present inaction and/or cowardice?

Don't even try to change the subject. That sw would post something trying minimize the deaths of American soldiers in an unnecessary war by putting out "inaccurate" numbers is nothing short of disgusting. I'll bet she's out front "supporting the troops", too. Well, support them by telling the truth. Not only have many died, but many more are wounded or mained for life and are not receiving the medical care and financial benefits that they deserve.

If you want to talk about Rwanda (800,000 dead) and Darfur (400,000 dead), start another thread.

Where have you been, fff? sw is not 'SHE' he is a 'HE' and the father of a U.S. Marine serving his country by fighting for freedom while we have the FREEDOM to sit comfortably in our homes typing these posts and replies.

You couldn't be more wrong.

If I thought for one second that you really cared about our distinguished military men, maybe I could feel your pain. But you don't. You don't care about anything but "Bashing" Bush.

You're sickening.

Yea, I'm pretty sure "SW" IS outfront on supporting the troops. Unlike you.

Frankie, you must not read much on here, it is obvious that if you did you would know who I am. You must have some reading comprehension problems, maybe that is why your so liberal. I am not a she, sorry but you are the one that is disgusting, I never ever use our military as you say. I am the proud father of a very special Marine and the "step father" of every other man or woman in uniform. I take every single death personally. I am just sick of you and the DNC using these deaths for political gain in your delusional world. Whether you want to admit it or not, we are in a world wide war with Radical Islam and we cannot afford to lose. Really, I am surprised you even posted on this thread, you usually hide from anything that is real unless you can twist it around and divert to another Bush Bash. You better go check your cow, I think she is having a calf.

Then you tell me why sw tried to minimize the number of military personnel who have died during George W. Bush's watch? Every one of them should be recognized and honored. But Bush won't even let the media take photos of them being brought back to this country!

The accurate number was right there at her link. All it would have taken was a bit of investigation (like you and your tax tables. ). But neither of you want the truth. You want to defend George W. Bush. You're willing to lie, to twist facts to do that. We all know that, so the tax tables aren't a big deal (except to show you for what you are), but it's totally disgusting and unacceptable to disrespect the deaths of American military members
to make Bush look good.

And she ain't apologized for misrepresenting those deaths yet.

I find it hard to believe that you are showing such disrespect to a father of a deployed troop ff. You of all people should show some respect. I'm disappointed in even you.

I'm surprised and disappointed that the parent of a soldier would use their child as an excuse to defend an indefensible war. sw is NOT the only one with family in-country, nor is he the sole person who has been in combat. We all make decisions as to what we can contribute. That his son is in harms way is admirable. That his leaders chose to put him there political reasons, is inexcusable. That sw uses that admirable service as a reason to not look at the reality of international relations and to blindly parrot the inane uttering s of a Presidential failure and embarrassment, is equally inexcusable.
