Although I've been to Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands countless times in my life...they still amaze me...Everyone should visit them.

I don't know what it is about your photos Jassy, but out of all the pictures on this site, yours have better composition, more color, are sharper in focus, and are just far superior to anyone elses on here.
Your photo essay of the two most popular stops in SD should be sent to the SD Tourism office for a new brochure!    8)

Awesome photo's of some awesome places!

We live only 20 miles from 'real' Badlands (that great cattle country east of the monument land) and maybe 60 from Cedar Pass......so it is pretty familiar. Haven't driven through for a couple of years and want to go while it is still green and at it's best. Maybe late Sept.

It does sometimes take 'outsiders' to bring home to us how special those places so near home truly are.

We have had guests from VT, VA, OR, and OH this summer and all were thrilled. Especially with the Badlands, which they really didn't believe existed, or at least not to the degree of ruggedness they saw.

Reports are that tourism of 'locals' is up considerably in the Black Hills and Badlands this summer.
