Minimum Wage Increase

Well with the Dem's getting control and many states voting minimum wage increase. It will not be long before the Fed's raise it. For sure before 08 elections.

Rep will not fight it because they realize most Americans have no idea the affect it has, and since most people think it would be good for them poor minimum wage people to make more money Washington will increase it. To save their butts come election time.

Just 2.5% of all hourly workers make the federal minimum, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Sad thing is My workers that I pay $10.00 an hour will get no raise, but when they take their families to McDonalds for a value meal they will see a higher price at the drive thru window a week after the Federal rate increases.

But the up side is my 16 year old son will have more money to buy Cd's, Nike shoes and whatever else teens buy nowadays. He will have more money and it will be easier for him to buy McDonalds even if them poor family men can no longer.

Kind of surprised no one had any opinions on the minimum wage going up in near future? Really surprised ole Econ did not have an opinion on this, seems right up his alley?

So pay your workers a % more so it does help them out.....Why call your workers poor family men.....why not give them increases to....ever hard working man deserves a raise...

you so messed up its not funny.....your telling me the prices at mcDonalds has not gone up in the last 8 years, cause the min wage has not..........you statement is foolish and not thought out......prices of goods will always rise.....thats like saying mcDonalds will drop the prices if min wage was decreased......LOL......pay your workers a fair rate and give them cost of living raises at least...if you can't afford inflation increased raises yearly, then get out of that bussiness......

One more thing......how do you know McDonalds cant afford to pay higher wages without raising costs?

In a good an vibrant growing economy, the minimum wage issue would not ever be an issue. Wages would go up because companies would need to raise them to keep workers.

Unfortunately, that has not happened in all sectors. Wage growth has not kept up with inflation.

As cowpuncher has stated, inflation is an additional tax on all of us. SS is indexed, most federal jobs are indexed, and our elected official's pay is indexed to inflation and cost of living adjustments.

Maybe McDonald's food shouldn't be so cheap after all.

I am sure McDonald's has raised their prices many other times besides minimum wage increase. But a minimum wage increase will for sure increase it especially because now besides the normal cost of living increase they will have an additional Government imposed increase. So that mostly a bunch of Teens can get additional CD and Beer money. While it contributes to the cost of living increase of non teens that do not necessarily get a raise.

As far as me, I am in business to make money. If it is not feasible for me to give an equal increase in wages which would be over $4.00 and hour raise in one snap of the pen if they increase the wage to $7.50. I am not going to increase from $10.00 to $14.00 just because some teens working at McDonald's got a raise. My account would not absorb the increase I would have to charge since they also will be dealing with the minimum wage increase.

So what I will do is cut a few jobs, go to a few part time people and pay $8.00 an hour. Maybe give a couple people a small raise the cost of living starts hitting them hard.

But one thing is for sure no one is going to get a $4.00 an hour raise just because the Teens, Second Jobbers and unmotivated people get a $2.00 an hour welfare raise.

There is a lot more ways such a raise will hut America Welfare and SS will need to be increased, due to the spike in cost of living this will cause. Also businesses pay there insurance, Work Comp and Unemployment insurance based on a percentage. So that $4.00 an hour raise would actually be a $4.80 raise.

aplus, my kids would not do that with their money. Talk about your own.

It really is no business of yours what people spend their money on as long as it is legal is it?[/quote]

I never said to raise it $4.00 or $4.80,again those are your numbers you brought out to us.......I said a % ..your sayaing you cant absorb a cost of living wage for your employees.....then why are you in that bussiness....if you have to roll back wages $2.00 because of an increase after nine years of the same minumum wage then your bussiness is not worth running..If you rely on the goverment wage scale to "never" change to keep your bussiness afloat,It may be time to rethink your whole buss.plan....cause that is a weak way to run a bussiness of any kind...

As I said before, ever hard working man deserves at least a inflation raise every year....Its sad to see people work hard for the same wage year after year..and are told they should be happy with it...

An inflation raise every year for every worker only insures that inflation will increase more, thus multiplying inflation.

An employee should get a raise when he deserves it.

Not when the guvment mandates it.

How does a self-employed man get a raise? He works harder and smarter!

Just a thought!
If i am paying my employees above minimum wage and the wage for minimum wage workers is raised and the cost of goods that my employees is increased, that means I need to increase my peoples wages. so they can survive?
Is this correct????

SO what happens to me when i have to raise the price of my services to my customers and they tell me they cannot any longer afford my services and stop buying from me.
My cost of employees wages has gone up! I have lost customers, am now losing money, I have to cut back some place so I let YOU go! You no longer have a job, the car you were driving is reposessed and you are kicked out of the place you have been living for failure to pay rent, makes you homeless.
All for a few cents in increased wages per hour for a small percentage of workers?
Wait a minute I get it!
Let the GOVERNMENT support you, let the GOVERNMENT pay the bills, but do not forget to send a BILL to the folks in CANADA who question the policys of those of us paying the bills in the US.

What is even worse is those that are not even a CITIZEN of the USA to question and CRITICIZE those of us who pay the bills and the TAXES in the US.

You said a % and that is what I did I matched the 40% increase in the Minimum wage to equal a 40% increase in my current wage.

There is a big difference in giving your employees a raise because they deserve it or even a raise based on inflation say 3% a year than all of a sudden having to give them a 40% raise to match the % in the increase of minimum wage.

I literally know not of one person that makes Minimum wage except the teens in town that work at McDonald's or bagging groceries. I used my son as an example but in all actuality he is 16 years old and he makes $8.00 an hour, so he does not even make minimum wage.

You might say that the grocery stores can afford to pay more money or even McDonald's but I know of about 10 grocery stores that have went out of business in a 30 mile radius of my house in the past few years. Not all businesses are getting rich like Microsoft some do struggle even to pay minimum wage in small rural towns.

When is it in your opinion ok to raise min wage?It has been nines years...lots of things from gas to rents have been raised in nine years...why is it so hard to see a goverment wage increase?.....you know it is the goverment supporting you by the sounds of things here.....if they move the min wage up it hurts you.....so you been getting 9 years of goverment support and now your belly aching about them changing it.....
