Mitch McConnell “Whac-A-Mole” approach to political rivals

Worst Super PAC ever?

Comically inept!

Kentucky’s least effective liberal group!

Those are some of the kinder comments about Progress Kentucky on the political blogs as more details unfold about the Keystone Cop role some members of the little-known group may have played in a damaging tape of a Mitch McConnell campaign strategy session that surfaced last week in Mother Jones magazine.

The tape, as the political world now knows, included Kentucky’s senior senator describing his “Whac-A-Mole” approach to political rivals — “when anybody sticks their head up, do them out.” It also offers audio of staff laughing about the prospect of exploiting actress Ashley Judd’s bout with depression and childhood thoughts of suicide should she decide to run for U.S. Senate. (She didn’t.)

The contents of the audio are as despicable as they are damaging, leaving Mr. McConnell unable to defend them. Instead, he blustered he was the victim of “Watergate style” bugging by left-leaning enemies and demanded an FBI investigation.

But now, Progress Kentucky — a political action group formed by a few activists for the sole purpose of unseating Mr. McConnell — through its clumsy stumbling has played right into his hands, helping establish him as the victim he badly wants to be.

Democrats and Republicans throughout Kentucky expressed bewilderment.

Meanwhile, Mr. McConnell has masterfully diverted public attention from the offensive content of the tape — which is the real story here — to his outrage over how it was obtained. McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton called the tactics “comparable only to Richard Nixon’s efforts to bug Democratic Party Headquarters.”

But how it was obtained — reportedly by at least one member of Progress Kentucky recording it outside the closed door of the McConnell campaign meeting — falls short of the “Watergate style” bugging Mr. McConnell and staff conjured up.

In fact, the efforts of Progress Kentucky made the bungled, 1972 Republican break-in of Democratic National Committee headquarters look downright professional. It would be as comic as some of the political blogs observed if it weren’t so sad.

Mr. McConnell, 71, and leader of the Senate Republicans, is seeking his sixth term in Congress in 2014.

He has long ceased to serve the state, instead serving the corporate interests he counts on for contributions and leading obstruction that continues to plague Congress. He needs a credible opponent and a serious effort by people ready to advance the interests of Kentucky and its citizens.

He doesn’t need more help holding onto office from groups such as Progress Kentucky.

Please Flounder stop looking like an idiot yet again. What Politician has ever not played wack a mole as you call it? I seem to remember Obama's gang of crooks wanting to KILL ROMNEY, did you post anything about that disgusting remark, that might have enticed a leftwingnut into trying to KILL ROMNEY, No I don't think so.

I also remember them trying to use a certain dog incidence that Romney wrote about in his book, to bring Romney down and it might have worked if Romney's team hadn't read Obama's book and brought up the DOG EATING INCIDENT. What Ashley Judd has written in her book or said in public is fair game just like it is when it is a Democrat using a Republican's own PUBLIC WORDS to damage their campaign.

Oh and didn't Obama gang of crooks also claim Romney was responsible for the death of a guy's wife? Did you voice your disgust about that dirty little lie? NOPE

Did you voice any kind of concerns about Obama's team claiming Romney cheated on his taxes? BTW If Romney had cheated on his taxes why didn't the Tax Cheat that Obama appointed to head up the Department of Treasury investigate and charge him? I'm guessing he didn't and the Dems were lying AGAIN or as you would call it they were playing WACK A MOLE with Romney being the target of the damning LIES.

The part of this whole McConnell story is the ILLEGAL TAPING OF A PRIVATE MEETING but why bother talking about that when you can damage the name of a Republican by spreading garbage like the Liberals are so good at.

If McConnell's supporters felt he had quit representing them then it is up to them to do something about it as he is their voice in DC NOT YOURS. If the Liberals were so confident that he is going down then why bother BREAKING THE LAW AND LEAKING THE ILLEGAL TAPE TO DAMAGE HIS REPUTATION? Why not let the voters do their duty to remove him LEGALLY.
