Poll shows Americans want to see Romney's tax returns
Posted by
CNN Political Unit
(CNN) – A majority of Americans say presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney should release income tax information beyond the two years he's already disclosed.

The USA Today/Gallup survey showed 54% of those surveyed felt Romney should release tax returns from additional years, compared to 37% who said Romney should not release more returns.

------

In Thursday's poll, 30% of self-identified Republicans said Romney should release more of his returns, compared to 75% of Democrats and 53% of Independents who said the same.

:D You have nothing, nothing. Why do you want more documents than required? Because you have nothing.

The guy that won't give out anything has a publisher that stated he was Kenyan for how many years? And his wife has been recorded stating the same.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk3OMRqO7aY

and you want more tax returns? Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids.

Well you keep eating your Trix then-- as it isn't me that is questioning and asking Romney to release his records... If you read the news articles and have any comprehension ability you would know its much of the leadership of the cult he wants to be the chosen champion of that is requesting these records...

In Thursday's poll, 30% of self-identified Republicans said Romney should release more of his returns, compared to 75% of Democrats and 53% of Independents who said the same.

And a major amount of the voters- including 30% of his own cult....

I've wanted to see Obozo dick-lickers college, real birth cert, and other records that he has sealed. The ******* dick-licker only lies and cheats. In one breath he says something and in the next he says he didn't say it. Hypocrite #1 in my book and a total fraud. I guess we will have to build a special prison for him and his worshipers after this election cycle.
I don't know a single person or family that is doing better than before dl was elected except for all the illegals that we as taxpayers support through welfare and foodstamps.

So you are taking what this 30% say as gospel and claim Romney should be forthcoming with the record.

I'll tell you something, I'll bet 100% of this thirty(just for starters) want obama to release all his records. So since you are listening to this 30% are you calling for obama to release his records.............

unlike liberals who are unwilling to question their candidate.. we as conservatives often demand more of those we support...

and that disclosure is often not limited to just the last twelve years, but often his who life is scrutinized..

with that said.. Romney should not release any paperwork or taxes until the ultra transparent Obama does the same with all his sealed records.. ...

President Obama only released his returns for six years prior in 08 primaries and only after Hillery supporters demanded them..

Obama Releases His 2000-2006 Tax Returns,

Obama spokesperson Tommy Vietor emailed out word that Obama had posted his tax returns for 2000-2006 on his campaign web site.

interesting.. 6 years is enough for Obama, yet 12 years is demanded of Romney?

to get Obama on equal footing with liberal demands we would need to see. 1993 through 1999 ....

ot has proven and continues to reinforce his HYPOCRITE startus. What is funny is he must not yet figured out that he and the rest of leftwingernuts have been exposed of their HYPOCRITE status.

Hey Oldtimer, the only pole I've located says that 79% don't think Romney should release any more returns until your dick-taker releases all his sealed records. Obozo and his clowns need to show the transparency that was promised.

Old Whiskeybreath's lips must be bleeding big-time, as often as he kisses Obamanure's ring.

As said before, the proof he knows anything about is 80 proof, and the only thing he knows about polls(sp) is they are in all the nudie bars.

 "It isn't me wanting his records, I just keep posting about it and twisting a few screwy numbers and ignoring the elephant in the room."

By the way, I'll call. I'm happy to compare comprehension scores from national testing whenever you would like. You should probably take this opportunity to fold.

But don't worry, I understand that it isn't easy for you. I was talking about Obama and Trix and you heard "tricks" and it got you all flushed and flustered.

£13tn: hoard hidden from taxman by global elite

• Study estimates staggering size of offshore economy
• Private banks help wealthiest to move cash into havens

A global super-rich elite has exploited gaps in cross-border tax rules to hide an extraordinary £13 trillion ($21tn) of wealth offshore – as much as the American and Japanese GDPs put together – according to research commissioned by the campaign group Tax Justice Network.

James Henry, former chief economist at consultancy McKinsey and an expert on tax havens, has compiled the most detailed estimates yet of the size of the offshore economy in a new report, The Price of Offshore Revisited, released exclusively to the Observer.

He shows that at least £13tn – perhaps up to £20tn – has leaked out of scores of countries into secretive jurisdictions such as Switzerland and the Cayman Islands with the help of private banks, which vie to attract the assets of so-called high net-worth individuals. Their wealth is, as Henry puts it, "protected by a highly paid, industrious bevy of professional enablers in the private banking, legal, accounting and investment industries taking advantage of the increasingly borderless, frictionless global economy". According to Henry's research, the top 10 private banks, which include UBS and Credit Suisse in Switzerland, as well as the US investment bank Goldman Sachs, managed more than £4tn in 2010, a sharp rise from £1.5tn five years earlier.

The detailed analysis in the report, compiled using data from a range of sources, including the Bank of International Settlements and the International Monetary Fund, suggests that for many developing countries the cumulative value of the capital that has flowed out of their economies since the 1970s would be more than enough to pay off their debts to the rest of the world.

Oil-rich states with an internationally mobile elite have been especially prone to watching their wealth disappear into offshore bank accounts instead of being invested at home, the research suggests. Once the returns on investing the hidden assets is included, almost £500bn has left Russia since the early 1990s when its economy was opened up. Saudi Arabia has seen £197bn flood out since the mid-1970s, and Nigeria £196bn.

"The problem here is that the assets of these countries are held by a small number of wealthy individuals while the debts are shouldered by the ordinary people of these countries through their governments," the report says.

The sheer size of the cash pile sitting out of reach of tax authorities is so great that it suggests standard measures of inequality radically underestimate the true gap between rich and poor. According to Henry's calculations, £6.3tn of assets is owned by only 92,000 people, or 0.001% of the world's population – a tiny class of the mega-rich who have more in common with each other than those at the bottom of the income scale in their own societies.

"These estimates reveal a staggering failure: inequality is much, much worse than official statistics show, but politicians are still relying on trickle-down to transfer wealth to poorer people," said John Christensen of the Tax Justice Network. "People on the street have no illusions about how unfair the situation has become."

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: "Countries around the world are under intense pressure to reduce their deficits and governments cannot afford to let so much wealth slip past into tax havens.

"Closing down the tax loopholes exploited by multinationals and the super-rich to avoid paying their fair share will reduce the deficit. This way the government can focus on stimulating the economy, rather than squeezing the life out of it with cuts and tax rises for the 99% of people who aren't rich enough to avoid paying their taxes."

Assuming the £13tn mountain of assets earned an average 3% a year for its owners, and governments were able to tax that income at 30%, it would generate a bumper £121bn in revenues – more than rich countries spend on aid to the developing world each year.

Groups such as UK Uncut have focused attention on the paltry tax bills of some highly wealthy individuals, such as Topshop owner Sir Philip Green, with campaigners at one recent protest shouting: "Where did all the money go? He took it off to Monaco!" Much of Green's retail empire is owned by his wife, Tina, who lives in the low-tax principality.

A spokeswoman for UK Uncut said: "People like Philip Green use public services – they need the streets to be cleaned, people need public transport to get to their shops – but they don't want to pay for it."

Leaders of G20 countries have repeatedly pledged to close down tax havens since the financial crisis of 2008, when the secrecy shrouding parts of the banking system was widely seen as exacerbating instability. But many countries still refuse to make details of individuals' financial worth available to the tax authorities in their home countries as a matter of course. Tax Justice Network would like to see this kind of exchange of information become standard practice, to prevent rich individuals playing off one jurisdiction against another.

"The very existence of the global offshore industry, and the tax-free status of the enormous sums invested by their wealthy clients, is predicated on secrecy," said Henry.

Oil-rich states with an internationally mobile elite have been especially prone to watching their wealth disappear into offshore bank accounts instead of being invested at home, the research suggests. Once the returns on investing the hidden assets is included,

translation.. dictators often stash cash

which might explain Obama's overseas earnings.. :?

Might as well raise the tax rates on the rich then, and have them hide more.

two things to consider,.

stashed cash that is sitting in overseas accounts often has lower returns then active investments..

if the tax in the home country is high on investments..

thus the low return is balanced by the tax savings.. add in the home countries possible unstable economy.. all factors which encourages the rich to diversify..

so to solve the problem.. have a robust economy,.. low investment taxes,..

and avoid dictators who steal your resources..

Former McCain adviser: Romney taxes complex but not 'disqualifying'

By Justin Sink - 07/22/12 01:40 PM ET

A top campaign official who worked for Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) 2008 presidential bid and helped select his running mate said Sunday that Mitt Romney's tax returns "do not look anything like the average American," but held nothing which prevented him from being on the ticket.

Steve Schmidt, McCain's former campaign strategist, who viewed Romney's tax returns when the presumptive nominee was being vetted for the vice presidential slot in the last cycle said Romney was an "extremely wealthy man."

He said Romney had turned over 23-years' worth of tax returns to the McCain campaign to vet that were extremely complex. But Schmidt also said there was nothing in the documents that would have precluded McCain from picking Romney.

"Mitt Romney went through this process and what I can tell you is that he's a person of decency with the highest ethical character and background," Schmidt said. "There was nothing that was disqualifying. That pick in 2008 was not about any deficiency with Mitt Romney. It was a political decision that we made in a very bad political circumstance."

McCain eventually selected then-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Looking more and more like Romney probably did nothing illegal- but just don't want to share the knowledge of all his tax loopholes and breaks with us peon folk... :(

"Probably did nothing illegal..."  Just can't admit it, can ya?? Compared to YOUR Messiah, I'm sure the man is a saint many times over....

If he had of done anything illegal, don't you think the obama IRS would have already been investigating him?

I doubt it has to anything to do with keeping his tax deductions secret. He just knows that 99% of us don't qualify for those kinds of deductions anyway. Now everyone can relax and go to checking on why in 3 1/2 years Obama's staff has not imporved their positions with the IRS.

so you are against Socialism?

no i am not against socialism, am truly interested in many ideas and those things that sometimes others oppose others may disagree, or they simply adhere to one narrow view. am unlike some who are very loyal to their particular party or ism.

i do think some areas of governance such as education, maternity leave, public transportation, pensions or health, are best as universal services and not done for profit however again, others may not agree.
