Mmmmm-the house smells good

I've been baking for two days for the holidays and to pass on some Christmas cookies to relatives so the house has a really good aroma:

4 pecan pies, 5 pumpkin pies, pumpkin breads, a fruit tart, decorated sandtarts, 7- layer cookies, snowballs, stuffed and sugared dates, and oatmeal shortbread triangles.

The bad part is, all of above leave at Thanksgiving and I'll have to start all over again

I am jealous. I haven't even shopped for Thanksgiving yet. I have been procrastinating.

I thought my daughter would help a lot but she gets in late on Wednesday.

I like to have it all done or mostly done by Thursday morning so I can spend Thursday morning picking up and relaxing and just enjoy Thanksgiving. There's plenty to do with serving and then with cleaning up afterwards.

My girlfriend who is a superb cook is smoking the turkey and making the stuffing.

My sister-in-law is buying the wine.

I have to do the pies, cranberry relish, mashed potatoes, baked root vegetables, candied yams, salad, and provide the house -- so not so bad.

I'd love to be at your house. The baked goods sound lovely. Unfortunately with a kosher Thanksgiving like I'm doing this year, it's hard to make good pumpkin pies. I haven't found a good substitute for evaporated milk that is non-dairy. The mashed potatoes are ok with chicken broth and fresh rosemary - yummy (or this year PARVE chicken broth since my girlfriend's sister is vegetarian on top of the kosher guests).

Ahh, you reminded me of another thing to be thankful for on Thursday:
I'm not a vegetarian!
