Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama raised $32 million in January, a whopping figure that has permitted the campaign to boost staff and extend advertising to states beyond the sweeping Feb. 5 contests, aides said Thursday.

In comparison, John McCain had raised a total of about $34 million at the end of 2007. Obama raised as much in one month as McCain has through the previous months of campaigning. And Obama added 170,000 new contributors during the month of January while McCain was borrowing against his campaign "assets" and turning to lobbyists for money. We don't know how much of his own fortune Mitt has spent or how much he's willing to spend. But it's looking more and more like McCain is the Republican nominee.
