Election 2008: Montana Presidential Election
Montana: McCain 48% Obama 43%
Thursday, April 10, 2008

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Montana shows John McCain leading Barack Obama 48% to 43%. However, he enjoys a much more comfortable lead over Hillary Clinton, 54% to 36%.

It would be truly stunning if Obama could turn Montana into a competitive state this November. George W. Bush won Montana’s 3 Electoral College Votes by twenty percentage points in 2004 and by twenty-five points four years earlier. Even Bob Dole managed to win Montana, albeit by a narrow 44% to 41% margin (Ross Perot picked up 14% of the vote).

The last Democrat to win Montana was Bill Clinton in 1992. He did so with 38% of the vote. The first President Bush got 35% of the Montana vote while Ross Perot picked up 26%.

I will be very proud if Montana can see through the duping by Obama and Hillary and go with McCain this fall.

And you know what--I think that is exactly what is going to happen.
Wyoming as well and probably ND and SD...

Yep-- but the pollsters are saying it could end up being very close if Obama is the Dem candidate- and daily as corn prices (which Montana has little of) and gas prices go up- and cattle prices and futures look sadder- the more I hear against GW's energy policy and McCains apparent backslapping and mirroring of that policy.....

And now it appears a good chance that Barr will get the Libertarian nomination- and Ron Paul (who carried Montana well) will endorse and give some of his large coffers of campaign money...And Montana is one of the states where the Libertarian Party is already recognized on the ballot.....

May get interesting before its over....

McCain is viewed favorably by 56% of Montana voters, Obama by 54%, and Clinton by 42%.

Obama might get some help from the state’s Democratic Governor, Brian Schweitzer61% of the state’s voters say he is doing a good or an excellent job. Just 14% rate his work as poor.

McCain, on the other hand, is likely to get little help from the President. Despite winning 59% of the vote in Montana less than four years ago, George W. Bush now earns good or excellent ratings from just 38% of the state’s voters. Forty-seven percent (47%) say he is doing a poor job.

What exactly is a "Purple State"? Does that mean that it's full of whiners and bitchers?

Probably-- I have heard it described as made up of whining farmers & and lamenting ranchers (since ranchers don't whine  )... And many now say with all the ranching subsidies-conservation programs and easements to be worked-- the cattlemen have developed a mailbox roll in the brims of their hats the same as the old farmers caps..

Actually I think its best been described as a state that follows no political party drumbeat- is very independent thinking- has a Dem Gov.- 2 Dem Senators (after they ousted the last crooked Repub one)- a Repub Congressman---- where Ron Paul was second place winner in the Repub caucus's-- and over the years could easily go either way politically- depending more on the person running than the party affiliation.....

I guess you could say we're AC/DC    :p

Why are you so proud of Switzer, OT?

And Montana isn't very wise. No sales tax for one thing.
They want all the rich people and they don't have to pay for what they
get...instead taxes are on the back of the property owner in this state.

Montana is BEHIND the times!!

All the adjoining states know that Montana is and has always been
anti-business. When we moved to W. Montana everyone told us that the government wanted one National Park from Yellowstone to Glacier. We thought it was funny at the time, well, it isn't one bit funny...they cater to the RICH...on the backs of the property owners. I'm fed up with Montana politics.

So, I would be really proud if they back McCain. And I do think it's gonna happen.

Not that I wouldn't rather see Ron Paul on the ballot, or Mitt Romney...but that ain't gonna happen. So McCain it is...

FASTER HORSES- Where did I say that :???: I posted an article from Rasmussen polling- and that was also in the state newspapers- and all of a sudden all neocon Republicans on here think that is my belief...

I think much of this bash Oldtimer is because of the fact it is the reality sinking in of the damage that GW has done to this country and the Republican party- and the realization of the "Backlash to Bush" that is built up in this country and absolute fear that the Dems are going to rule the country for the next 4-8-12-? years because of it- and that Repubs and Bushites are trying to avoid facing that reality....

There is no doubt in my mind they will positively control Congress- and have a good chance to control the White House..And as I have posted on here many times- I think it is dangerous when one party rules all of D.C- which was shown when GW had no oversight for 6 years of madman spending, building federal bureaucracy, nation building, and usurping states rights....

If you would actually read the post- it didn't say that I supported Schweitzer- it said 61% of Montana voters do

For your info- I have long been a supporter of the sales tax- and tried my damndest when my old buddy Marc Racicot was Governor to get it into place... I'd love nothing better than to see Montana do away with property taxs- but that said- I still could not lower my principles to vote for someone like Judy Martz second time around or this last time for Conrad Burns who not only abused their political positions and used them for personal profiteering- but outright obstructed justice in coverups... :( :(

Its about time everyone looked past the (R) and (D) by their names and started kicking the crooks out of office....

So, it's a vast right-wing conspiracy? The "neocons" here are out to get you because they don't like what "GW" has done to the country and the Republican party. So they're bashing YOU instead of "GW." Okay.

I sure don't mind agreeing with you on this part, though:

It's past time that we do that. The conservatives here seem to be better about doing that than the libs, though. The conservatives are usually quick to denounce Republicans for their illegal and unethical activities.

On the other hand, the libs here are like libs everywhere - they stand by their man no matter what. They're even still making excuses for Clinton's perjory.
