This morning on Montana Trivia on the radio they said that in 1886 during the days of open range- there were 700,000 cattle and over a million sheep grazing the open ranges of Montana...
Then the winter of 1886-87 came along and wiped almost all out...Pretty well began the end of the large absentee ranch owners on open range ....
