Montana Mental Health Worker Who Reported Child Pornography Fired

An employee of a Missoula mental health center who told police about a client's computer search for child pornography was fired, in part for making the report, according to court records.

The client, John Gribble, has been charged with sexually abusing a child after a DVD with photos of nude children was found at his house, the Missoulian reported Wednesday.

An employee of Three Rivers Mental Health Solutions contacted police about Gribble on Oct. 17 after seeing the words "female child nude" and "preteen nude girls by themselves" in the browser window of Gribble's computer.

The employee first told her supervisors, who told her not to report Gribble because her concerns did not meet the criteria for notifying authorities, according to an affidavit filed by Deputy Missoula County Attorney Jason Marks.

Three Rivers administrator Shea Hennelly said reports that break medical confidentiality must include the names and address of the child involved, the names of the child's parents and others responsible and the nature and extent of the child's injuries.

"In order to provide mental health services, we can't engage in dual roles," he said.

Under state law, health care professionals must report to the Department of Public Health and Human Services when they "know or have reasonable cause to suspect, as a result of information they receive in their professional or official capacity, that a child is abused or neglected by anyone ..."

"She didn't witness someone abusing a child," Hennelly. "What this woman reported to this office was she saw the tab of Web browsers that said teenage girls. That's a lot different."

He said there was no way to identify potential victims.

The affidavit said the woman was concerned about the young daughters of two single mothers for whom Gribble babysit. She relayed those concerns to supervisors, "but the employee couldn't tell me any names," Hennelly said. "In the past, this gentleman babysit kids and we were able to identify the mother and were able to carry out our duty to warn."

Hennelly said there were several reasons the woman was fired, and making the report after being told not to was one of them.

It looks as if the lady who was fired did the right thing, morally, and legally.

to fire her is wrong... she should have been given a raise!

I am not sure if anyone could ever justify child abuse as a mental issue.. but it seems the liberals in Psychology keep trying..

I think I read somewhere that Montanans don't like the guvmint in people's bedrooms. That's probably why that employee was fired - she just didn't understand the local customs.

Makes you wonder why?

Wasn't there a case of incest or child sexual abuse in Montana at one time, that a certain sheriff refused to investigate, or something like that?

I can't remember how that went, but.........

oh so is that where you got the iidea for the lies you told about me. You let a guy get away, and so you thought you'd blame it on anyone that lived in Canada.....

You should move to the real world sometime, it's more sensible than the world you live in......

The comedy is- that some of you same rightwingernuts that are now chastising this report- are the same ones that criticized and chastised the "guvment", law enforcement, and social services for intervening- and trying to remove children from Waco- or from the fundamentlist religious zealot Warren Jeffs- that were practicing not only pornography--but incest, statutory rape, and bigamy...

But I guess- as long as you do it in the name of religion/God- rightwingnuts think everything is Okee Dokee :???: :(

And Montana does have one of the strictest individual right to privacy Constitutions- which the rightwing of the Republicans have been the strongest in the legislature putting in laws to uphold that privacy--even tho those workers in human/social rights have complained that it would mean women/children/mentally challenged could suffer because of it...

Knowing the folks of Montana- I'm sure if what was reported is true- the lady filing the complaint will not be out of a job long- and probably with a better job than she had before..... Even tho folks out here follow they law- they also still use common sense... Its just too bad those that are working for the benefit of those that can't care for themselves keep getting their hands tied by some of the extremists because they think all government is the Boogie Man .. :(

do you have evidence that some on here criticized the removal of children from Waco or Warren Jeffs?

I'm pretty sure I remember that some criticized the killing of women and children by the "guvment" at Waco.......

How does one "practice" pornography? You can watch it on the puter/video/DVD, or look at magazines/books, but "practice"? Well, maybe you can, and maybe some folks need to practice it. An old guy who bought horses from me years ago had an old rip of a mare that would stand to be bred 24/7. The stud he bought from me must have thought he died and went to heaven, cause that old boy put that stud out with that old mare. When I asked him why the old guy thought the stud needed to "practice" before he bred him to any other mares. When it came time for him to do the deed for reals and trues, that 3 year old got the crap kicked out of him by other mares. He didn't learn a thing with the old rip.

Remember folks, oldtimer does not NEED evidence to make statements like that, all he has to do is say them and it becomes true, just like the harassment claims he made on here, he can lie and never show proof...

Oldblubberbutt constantly aruges points that no one made, puts words in people's mouths, and distorts facts to fit his agenda.

I wasn't around here for any discussion of the events surrounding that cluster fark in Waco, but I'm pretty darn sure I know what the theme would have been by "rightwingernuts". It would have been something along the lines of............why didn't authorities simply arrest the guy on any one of his mulitple trips into town when they had him under surveillance intsead of going in there in the manner they did?

It was a huge mistake on their part (though it sure looked impressive on film, didn't it?), innocent women and children were burned alive, and I don't recall if anyone in the government ever really owned up to the mistake.

Kind of reminds me of someone here who is, more often than not, wrong about a topic but would rather swallow a bad clam than admit he made an error.
