Pretty cattle country. How deep are the wells that the mills are on? Or are they on developed springs? With all the sandy country i am amazed that there are so many lakes. I'd think it would all be drier. Thanks for packin' a camera with ya. I'd love to see that part of the world with my own eyeballs someday!

Most of our windmills are only one or two joints of pipe deep (each joint is 21 feet). Our deepest well up in the South Dakota hills is seven joints deep. Windmills close to the Niobrara River south of us are also pretty deep, but we don't own any of that country.

Soapweed I like your boring old cow pictures! you've got some good looking cattle and calves. I did have to laugh at your fence line picture as some of the posts look like creosote... that is one thing I don't miss about Nebraska, the other is sand burrs! :)

Like your gate latch, no ears or tail is a sign of wolf problems here. And yes, we did ooooh and aaaah over your cow pictures :D

I would get a bus ticket for that ol' moochin mama. No ears & tail don't seem to impact calf growth as bad :) I always enjoy your pictures.

To Bad the Windmill photo is wrecked by the back side of the pick-m-up with it's foot prints. Try a new angle!

This particular windmill isn't very "photogenic," even under the best of conditions. The photo is off-balanced, with too much "weight" on the left, and it has no "award winning" potential by any stretch. To my way of thinking, maybe if it has anything going for it at all, it is because it a story picture. By showing the pickup with its load of feed along with the fresh tire tracks, and showing the salt bunk filled with salt and mineral, hopefully the photo tells a story.

This is my "story" and I'm stickin' to it. :)
