New gate at ranch.

Grass is losing it's green. There is a mix of tame and native in this pasture and I left it longer than I should have to take this grass because it needed a better layer of litter. A little sacrifice this year for future rewards.

Going to round these up and wean next week. Snow today but hot again next week. Would have been easier today.

This tree couldn't make up its mind.

Still baling at my neighbor's place. A custom baler was going to work next door but it wasn't ready so I hijacked him to finish this straw so I could go finish some greenfeed.

Before I left a ride in one of those fancy combines was in order.

That would be correct PC. The desert rewarded us this year. This was a mile east of my farm. I never had anything over 95 bpa. Still a Red Deer kind of a crop though. :) Mine was grown feeding the bugs and using softer nutrients and his was the full meal deal chemical program. I used about 1/3 the fertilizer that he did. We will compare math this winter.

Did you get a order in for one of those big Yellow machines?

I could have my crop off in 4 days for just $350,000 and I still wouldn't get to drive it because all my helpers won't truck. It was fun to ride in.

That's a plenty stout gate for keeping those pesky quakies from roamin'! Here's a dumb question from a feller who hasnt farmed very much....... Why swath the barley before combining it? Hope the production keeps up on the high side and ya make so much money you decide to spend some next summer on a Utah trip. :D

Okfarmer it is a conventional type New Holland made in Europe. H, there was plenty of green that given the calendar date and the very real possibility of snow was the fastest way to get it ready on time. Also he did not desiccate it because it will likely be made into beer some time this winter. Only 50% of the crop up here gets straight cut. This year it is down to maybe 15% because it is so late. I haven't been to Utah for 30 years, it is back on my bucket list.

Are you backgrounding your calves again?

Yes I think so. Plenty of feed here and I am not keen on selling two crops of calves in one tax year. Some of the bids do look attractive though.
