I had an A'I customer phone this A'M we got 100% conception on twenty head of heifers using CIDR's and time breeding. The bull we used was the Charolais bull LT Bluegrass so he must freeze really high quality semen-I know the tech is slightly overfitted and turns out on his front feet lol. I've bred alot of critters but never hit that good on straight tme breeding.

Thats incredible. I would be curious to know what synchronization protocol he used. We are going to be Synchronizing 200 hd of heifers this spring and have not come to a decision on the most effective method.

I always heard that CIDR's were better suited to mature cows. Maybe not. If I get 70% I am more that satisfied on heifers. Usually 60-65% is where I end up with MGA and lutylase.

NR, what protocol do you use when you time breed with CIDRs? Do you time breed alot? I have never been a huge fan of timed breeding. I have heard of some disasters with it but I know the protocols and the drugs have greatly improved from when the timed breeding programs began.

I have heard though when they work it works really well.

There are a few different protocols we follow-the local vet seems to tweak it a bit every year. I've bred I'm guessing close to 10,000 head with Cidr's since they came out-virtually all the A'I projects use them up here. Had alot more successes than failures-I'll pm you with the ones we use the most. Alot of guys are going with a bit of heat detection then time breeding at a certain number of hours after CIDR removal. The few bad experiences have been with -overfat heifers-herds that have inherent fertility problems-sloppy habits during the program. I hate automatic syringes-I prefer to use single does plastic ones and have somebody refilling as I'm injecting-no ladies allowed-you are using basically fertility drugs so not willing to risk an accident. CLEAN_CLEAN_CLEAN. Have good facilities-I can usually breed around 40 an hour if somebody is loading guns for me and the corrals work.Over the years I've worked with alot of crews some are memorable.....The herd we had good success with has been using them for years-pretty basic corral system but we don't bite off more than we can chew.
