Everybody seems to think that if we don't have a FTA, we can't trade. FTA's are comparitively new to the scene. We can still trade away without a FTA, folks. We've done it for a looooooong time before FTAs.

Can any of you Canadians explain to me how a trade deficit is good for any economy? If you can't (and believe me, you can't), explain why any country should remain in a detrimental agreement?

Agreed. But perhaps you didn't hear me the first time; if not for energy trade between the US and Canada, it would be Canada in the trade deficit position. Free trade ovbiously hasn't hurt YOUR position with Canada, but obviously is hurting us.
And it's not like having that agreement there has done anything to stop unfair trade practices on either side of the border. So I'm with you SH, it's high time you guys paid up

How can you say that Free trade is hurting you but not us? Prior to NAFTA, we had a trade surplus with both you and Mexico (and I'll bet energy was a big ticket back then, too). Now, we have a deficit with both countries. How is a deficit good?

If FT is hurting Canada, why are your leaders so adamant that NAFTA not be touched?

Where did I say it was hurting us but not you??? It is my belief that Canada is in a worse position on many fronts post freetrade than pre FT.

Perhaps you need to do a little reading. Pre freetrade Canada was a net importer of energy. So obviously energy wasn't a big ticket with regards to trade accounts.

I would assume our leaders are so adamant about NAFTA for the same reasons yours are.

That's how I took this comment, "Free trade ovbiously hasn't hurt YOUR position with Canada, but obviously is hurting us. "

maybe it isn't the fta's that are the problem. perhaps n. america in general and certainly the usa doesn't have the resources to maintain its standard of living. might just be that the credit card is maxxed out and there's no more cheap easy solution.

Now take energy out of the equation and see where you sat PRE and POST FT and tell me you're worse off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How did NAFTA enable you to export energy that you couldn't before?

Are you kidding me? Wanna ask a grown-up question now???

Be a grown-up and tell me what the tariff on Canadian oil was prior to NAFTA.

You be a grown-up and tell me. And then tell me if it would be cheaper and better to import energy from unstable middle east states. And then tell me who owns and has allways owned the majority of companies that produce oil and gas up here.
Or are you trying to tell me now that your position on NAFTA has changed?

Prior to NAFTA, there was no tariff on Canadian oil. Therefore, NAFTA had nothing to do with the increase of Candian oil to the US. That's what I was getting at.

My position on NAFTA hasn't changed. It's a pig, it's unconstitutional as it is set up, and it was back-doored into existence. It never would of passed had it went through the proper procedures to be a treaty then nor now.

SH: I agree with your sentiments exactly, even though we seem to have arrived at the same conclusion from very different angles. (Of course, you seem to have got to the right conclusion by misinformation, but at least you're there  )

I know this stuff keeps coming up, but I think this financial fiasco that has been engineered by the central bankers/federal reserve to help bring in the North American Union (and probably other numerous things, they deregulated all the regulations for a reason) ....... I found this today and do not know how old the clip is and since I have dial up, watching any video would take all night.

This is a video from Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and a video of the Province of Manitoba’s Throne Speech on November 20, 2007 so if someone has faster than dial up...... is it worth listening to?
