More twins.

I'm not sure why we have had so many twins from this group of cows over the years. This year is no different. We have now had 4 pairs from the first 28 cows this spring.

Yesterday's pair was the biggest we have ever had. The first one to come was 96 lbs. and the second calf weighed in at 85 lbs for a total of 181 lbs. of calf from one cow. Just a smashing pair of bull calves. Before she calved, the cow looked like a barge coming toward me across the field.

I thought the first calf was a good big single. Thus, I could hardly believe it when she lay down and started pushing again and a minute later out comes the second one.

They were quick to get up but slow to the teat so with a little help, they got their bellies full. Not used to helping many, but this year we have had to help more calves start nursing than we have in all the past 5 years, at least.

They are sure hungry, but don't seem to be able to get on the teats like other years.I'm not sure why that is unless it's because we changed up our rations over the winter.
