More votes than any president ever

There are many ways of looking at Obama's win: At roughly 53% to 46% It was the biggest margin, percentage-wise, at least since George H. W. Bush's 1988 victory; it was, on the other hand, shy of Reagan's realigning 1980 victory and his 1984 blowout.

One number pointed out me yesterday: With unofficial tallies of the popular vote past 64 million (and still counting, as Georgia and other states tally the paper), Obama won more votes than any president in history.

Some of the talking heads and folks on FOX last night were talking about what a bad omen some of this is for the Repub party-- that there were millions of new voters and young first time voters that by almost 80% voted for Obama- and that many times once a person picks a party to first vote with, they stay with it.. And this could lead to some rough times for Repubs in the future...

But in his Bush type arrogancy- Karl Rove didn't think the Repubs should do anything to change their message or tactics  Altho he also thinks Sarah Palin is the future of the Republican Party... :(

With counting still on-going, there are a million less votes than there were in 2004 and only 121 million in total.

Actually Rove pointed out that this was one reason why McCain lost the election. He also said republicans would have to do a lot of changing. BUT the highest percentage of voters was the 1908 election.
