Moving Cows(photos)

We moved the herd yesterday, the pasture they were on was getting kinda grazed off. Brought them home, put the bred heifers with them and then took them out to their new digs.

Found the first of them

Seems kinda a shame to move them when the water is still running....

Not too far from town (or home for that matter)

Waiting in a gate, they always think they should turn here...

gee that close to town and didn't even stop for coffee  , cows look good

Nope, no time for coffee. We are actually only 1/2 mile north of the highway.

We are pretty happy with how they look, especially after raising the calves they did this year too!!

Very refreshing to see a pair of 'ears' at the bottom of that one pic, rather than the handlebars of a 4-wheeler...

So far so good. DH wants a bike, but I've been holding off as hard as I can. Much rather ride a horse.....

I enjoyed heading down the highway and through town with you Randi. Little bow is right, it is a shame to not stop for coffee while going by. In this camp the photographer would have gone ahead and be drinking coffee when the cows go by.

Well, we didn't actually go THROUGH town. Where you turned to go into town, we turned and went north (the pic where the cows are crossing the bridge). It is another 1/2 mile into town. It would have had some of the residents up in arms if we let the cows run amok in town while we had coffee, I'm sure

Nice looking cattle, randiliana. They are in just right condition, and are faring the winter well.

You driving them close to town but not through town reminds of some of my friends. Years ago, they were driving cattle parallelling the east-west highway, and would be intersecting the north-south highway about a mile north of Gordon. The dad sent his son, Tom, to ride into town to buy some hamburgers at the local drive-in cafe to bring back to the rest of the crew. Tom was kind of excited to have this position of responsibility, and was pleased to note that some of his high school friends were hanging out at the drive-in. As there was no place to tie up, Tom hobbled his horse out front while he procured the hamburgers. He visited with his friends while the burgers were cooking, and then carried the sack of food out to his horse. He mounted the steed for a grand exit, applied his spurs, and was instantly mortified to realize he'd forgotten to take the hobbles off. It was quite humiliating to have to dismount to attend to this chore. :? :)
