Did anyone see the montana stockgrowers top hand - award given to guy that does the most recruiting. I saw his picture in the Trader's Dispatch.

I got a story to share about that guy - probably one of the toughest old farts I have ever met. Two years ago I was helping hay on his old place south of Malta and he was out driving swather for the family that bought him out. I'd shut down and go over and help change teeth or guards a few times a day for him. One time I was under the header of the swather he was running and he said I am going to climb up on the header and wash the windows so i can see better. well he got up there and lost his balance and fell right into the header with metal pickup teeth that were wore razor sharp and several of them stabbed him as he fell. I got up to look and he had one that poked right through his cheek and into his mouth. he was lucky - helped pull him out and said all he could taste was hay. shooved some paper towels in his mouth and finished the day swathing. he says - its 60 miles of gravel to any sort of town might as well get a full days worth for the drive out here.

another thing i learned about tuff old farts like that - they don't like guys changing teeth and guards for them cause it cuts into their nap time in the shade of the header.
