I don't know what to think of Cole Creek Black Cedar 46P, shown on page39.
He looks to be quite the bull but something looks different.. :?

On page 47 the McNamee Angus ad it is a small picture but I like the looks of Horse Butte 7013 of 1116.
Some neat pictures of some old time cattle.

Thanks for the link to the magazine, BMR.

Is it the ears on Black Cedar 46P that look different?

Geezzz. I went back and looked again. I think it is his head looks
small for his body. Anyone else?

I think he's a good looking bull and many ranchers think he is a a herd changer, so it must be the picture. :???:

There is a lot of respect out there for this bull.

Be sure to check out Saddle Buttes ad...

His yield is low. He is missing the most expensive piece of meat on the entire carcass....

He has been quite the subject of conversation on the 5barX site.....Along with his son Cole Creek Cedar Ridge 1V...

Personally I kind of like that smaller head on bulls (not many steaks there anyway  )- which often gives them a lot more calving ease over those big headed herefords and simmis of old I've had to battle with....

He probably gets it from his sire- the CH Quantum 6247 "Cedar" bull- which is a calving ease "heifer bull"- and a bull that is a fantastic momma cow maker- and has a smaller head when compared to body size...

I think he has alot going for him. Definitely a bull worth considering for outcross genetics.

Anybody want to share their thoughts on the Mytty Thunderstruck bull on page 3?

I don't know much about Thunderstruck- except that I hate primped up cattle...Would much rather see them in their working clothes...

As far as Black Cedar--my son is heading down this weekend for the Cole Creek sale on Monday- and if they have him there at the yards he will check him out....

I was doing a little more looking at that Thunderstruck bull-- and to me he's another one of those you're rolling the dice with- and taking a bigger than necessary gamble since he has Bon View Bando 598 3 generations back in his pedigree...

Will Thunderstruck be or won't he be a FCS carrier when they get a test developed..... :???:

The Cedar bull to me is lacking secondary masculine character especially for a mature bull. Very little crest, no coarse curly hair on head or neck, almost no muscle definition or expression. For a mature bull he appears very smooth and flat.

I think you hit right. NO definition of muscle.

The son just called me from Columbus and said he was leaving the Cole Creek sale....Wasn't able to see Black Cedar as they didn't have him there- just the bulls and heifers selling...

Said the top bull was a choice on one or the other of Cole Creek Concrete sons that went for $12,000- and that you got 1/3 interest on the bull they retained...

But we were there just looking for yearling heifers...
He did pick up a Black Cedar great granddaughter sired by Cole Creek Lock n Load with GDAR Rainmaker 340 as mgs.... He also got a Cole Creek Seven daughter out of a HD Dunn High Mountain 2222 sired Juanada Rita cow...

Said the heifers had been really "roughed" thru the winter- and were in probably the roughest shape he'd seen them ...Hard to tell what they were going to be by what they looked like now... But he thought they averaged somewhere near $1300...

Edit-- Bulls averaged around $2770....

Can't go to far wrong with old Rainmaker 340. :)

Thats kind of what I figured too...They had a Goldmere 31N sired heifer that went back to 340 as mgs too- that we were interested in- but she must have got too pricey for him or something...

I'll get a look when he gets back tonight- but like he said- as rough as they were wintered- you almost had to go by what you expect from the pedigrees to make a choice or guesstimate of what they will look like when they grow out....

Both have some good old maternal blood in their backgrounds and could make him good cows :
