Well, we got a nice one. We were out at first light, and saw the buck weve been chasing for a few years, we put the hammer down, shot, and I creased him in the front chest. My cousin shot a few times, I shot another couple, uncle was sick with buck fever, had his clip upside down and bvackwards, when he did get a shot, he shot it in the hindquarters, Cousin reloaded, put another shell in the chamber and made a lung and heart shot. the Buck dropped. I said he could have the buck, cause I have more hunting time, and after all, he did out it down. Just when we were packing up, the buck got up and started running again. we all ran after it. Uncle and cousin were shooting at it. It bedded down, and they were heading for the truck. I snuck up to him, and gave him a final shell in the neck, putting this monarch to rest for good. After he tagged it, we made a mad dash for school cause we were already late. At noon we greenscored it at 150 1/8 N/T. Not too bad for a 3x4, eh?? We kept looking for a buck for me, but now that the standard is ste, Im not going to settle for anything under 140, till the last weekend, of course lol.

I want to congratulate Bubba (cousin) and Dipsy Doodles( Uncle.... dad gave him the nickname when we called him) for a great hunt, and this time dad, you have to come!!!

Here's to a fallen Monarch and another great hunting season in the up and coming!!! :drink: :drink: :cboy: :kid:

Mine can hit a quarter at 150 yards, with uncle pat shooting, I can hit a bill at 150. Bubba and dipsy doodles can shoot, not as well as me :p, but they can hit a bill at 150 yards too. lol.

We was shakin so hard from buck fever. Someone said, thats some mighty poor shootin, and I looked him in the eye and said, "Well, he's down isn't he? Where's your gut pile?" He was silent for a while

We have one on the lawn but the son of a ----- wont step into the yard light for em to shoot. lol.

Yup, sounds like most of the "hunters" we get around here.

One down, one to go.

So a 3x4 is a monarch? Are they going to get it mounted, so they can hang it on the wall?

I have heard 12-14 shots fired by a group of guys and the deer got away.. These pump shotguns or semiautos tha they use (slug guns) are suppossed to be limited to 3 shots but they all pull the plug and have 5 rounds chambered.. They all claim the same as ACS that they go site the gun and can shoot a gnat off a cat's eyelash but the problem is they can't shoot worth a lick when it counts because their heartrate is pumping so high.... It is kind of like me back in HS... I played baseketball, in practice I could shoot 65% from the three point line but in a game I was to amped up and was always to strong on the shot so it would be more ike 30%, or in some games worse  .. Most were good shots, hard not to be at 50 yards realll with a well blanced slug gun, and most would have real tight groups right in the bullseye... Just need to find away to handle the buck fever.. Now me? I never have that problem

With all of these things it is not practice makes perfect it is perfect practice makes perfect...

Must be a Humboldt thing lol-we have to walk the bush till we find a fire darkened knothole to sight in on lol. When I was a kid I got in a deal like that-I'd been sitting for a couple hours in -30 and when the deer came out I was too froze up to shoot-I hit it on my 4th shot. My Dad was out in the yard when I brought it home just a mile from where I was hunting. He said-"I haven't heard anything like that since I was in the f.... war.".That was my last fusilade at a deer. If I want to burn up some ammo I have a good gopher hill and a Ruger 10/22.

A couple of years ago I was driveing home and I startled a group of whitetails that stated running. Problem was because of the lay of the land they kept running parallel to the road a long side of my truck.
We all kept going for a bout a half a mile until we came to 4 trucks that were parked a long side of the road. These hunters were standing by their trucks drinking coffee and eating sandwiches.
Anyway I kept driving and the deer went right through the hunters before they realized what happened.
The hunters were like a bnch of squirrels on Methanphitimines. Talk about scrambling! Anyway sure was a lot of shooting going on! As far as I could tell nothing was hit.
Two minutes later I was home. I just waited in my truck and sure enough here came the same herd of whitetails. They were pretty tired by this time so they stopped and hid in the buck brush behind my house since this was the only cover around for miles.
I left them be. Nothing big enough in the group to interest me.
Man I bet those hunters were surprised when that herd of deer came busting through their camp!
Firepower is one well aimed shot hitting the target.

When I was a kid my first deer was a similair thing. Got cursed up and down for it. Years later they still made fun of me because of it.
That was my last fusilage deer as well.
You know its funny how people can always remember what you did wrong but they cant remember what you did right. Or if they do remember they dont want to talk about it <grin>

I've had enough good deer hunting stories to fill several books-been uptight with some really great deer. Just got off the phone with a rancher in Zone 10-we've got to thin some does out for him then I can go in after a buck. I got a pretty good mulie there 8 years ago. I like his place it's in the back of beyond so won't see another hunter. I have no problem letting the deer win-drives my wife crazy when Ty and I won't fill our tags right away lol. We only get to hunt mulie bucks with a rifle every four years so really looking forward to this hunt-I LOVE hunting mulies BIG TIME.

Lol, we just draw a $10 on the cardboard, everyone chips in, and whoever hits it splits the pot for the day.

I had it dead on, but I was shaking so hard, Ive never been taught to shoot off hand, or on a running shot, I wasnt impressed with the shooting, but hey, we got him, diddnt we? :p.

BTW, using trucks is not my preferred method, its justwhat they do before school, and I was a guest. I like to walk in the hills and flush something to dad.

Well if your getting drawn every two years your a lucky guy lol. If you are unsure about the shot-DON'T TAKE IT. Let him walk and go hunt up another one. There was a lesson learned there hope you learned it.

Any 3x4 that grosses over 150 is a monach in my books Jinglebob. Im not sure of what theyre going to do, he's a real nice buck, and Id be glad to mount him, on my wall i mean.

NR, I passed up a few shots at him when I was in the bush cause there were branches in the way.

If I twanged him, he'd be a trophy, if I shot him with a gun, he'd be too small. Just me.

I don't think there are any 3x4's around here, that anyone would want to pay good money to get mounted, unless it was a first deer for their kid,
maybe. :???:

It si a first for the kid, first mule deer, and third deer.

I'd shoot a spike with my bow, and be more proud of it than a 130 class with a rifle.
