The New Civil Rights Division Head Wants to Decriminalize Possession of All Drugs

So who supports decriminalizing cocaine, heroin, LSD, methamphetamine, ecstasy and all dangerous drugs, including marijuana?

No, it’s not your teenage nephew. It’s President Obama’s new acting head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, Vanita Gupta. In 2012, Gupta wrote that “states should decriminalize simple possession of all drugs, particularly marijuana, and for small amounts of other drugs.” (Emphasis mine).

Last week, President Obama appointed Vanita Gupta to the position of acting head. According to the Washington Post, the administration plans to nominate her in the next few months to become the permanent assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division. Her views on sentencing reform–a bi-partisan effort in recent years–have earned her qualified kudos from some conservatives.

But her radical views on drug policy–including her opinion that states should decriminalize possession of alldrugs (cocaine, heroin, LSD, ecstasy, marijuana etc.) should damper that support of those conservatives, and raise serious concerns on Capitol Hill.

As the deputy legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union and the director of its Center for Justice, Gupta’s legal and policy positions are well documented in her long paper trail, which, no doubt, will be closely scrutinized if and when she is nominated and gets a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Now here's hoping she'll come around to those pesky burglary charges as well.

I wonder if there a "Rehab" for burglary? Surely someone, somewhere, will say they have a cure for it for a few hundred thousand dollars of someone else's money......................

Then there's that Meth that is nothing but a poison. Selling that crap should have a life sentence.

while I may be a bit out of lockstep with the rest of the conservative world...

I support "de-criminalization of almost all drugs..

while the government fails miserably at eradication of illegal drugs.. and is terrible at controlling legal drug use...

it may be good at "regulating" drug manufacture, sales and taxation of drugs.

I have seen the results of illegal drugs.. felt the results of the over control of legal drugs because of the abuse of legal drugs...

I have also seen the "miracle" that drugs can produce,..

so along with the wrath.. there are those who can be helped..

it is a double edged sword...

openly selling the drugs would kill the illegal trade over time..

http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa-157.html

which in turn will reduce crime in ALL other areas...

drug abuse, alcoholism, poverty and crime will always be with us..

for some there is no solution... for others.. such as children, simply taking it out of their hands.. is the solution.. and for each day that they mature is one day further away from a lifetime of abuse..

right now the drug dealer is either at school or waiting after school to sell drugs to them...

while the bar, pharmacy and liqueur stores often are off limits to teens..
