When I got to where we usually start glassing I didn't find a single mustang. I glassed the length of the valley with no luck at all, so I drove on out past River Bed. I located about thirty head on the flats and was able to get close enough for a few pictures.
I drove over a lot of country and didn't find any more horses. When I got back to Davis I thought I'd give it one more try. I was pretty excited to see a few mustangs coming out of a canyon and work their way around and up the ridge. By the time I drove the two miles to get to them, the whole band was in sight. I knew I'd have to hurry to get ahead of them if I was going to get any pictures. I was gasping for air and my legs were rubber by the time I got high enough to be in front of the leaders. I'm quite sure my heart isn't going to quit on me anytime soon, after the way I abused it on that little escapade.
