Mustangs from 2008

In 2008 we were riding horses and seeing a lot more country than we do today. There were a lot of mustangs in Wild Cat before the round-up. In fact there were horses everywhere. We haven't even seen a track there for three or four years.

We were riding the foot hills, and running into mustangs over every ridge. We noticed down in the flats where the water trough was, a lone palomino.
He was about a mile away and running around like he was lost. When he saw our horses he came running toward us. He gave us quite a show. It was picture taking time.

It's interesting to note all these black mustangs running together. Does that mean that all nine head are related ?

:agree:

And the one of the palamino running, that's quite a shot.
I'd like to have that enlarged to hang on my wall! Talk about
expression--he's so proud to be FREE!!!!

Anyway, mustang, thanks again for sharing.

I've been noticing how their feet are worn. A friend of ours, Gene
Ovnicek (who is now a world-class clinician and farrier) studied
the wild horses for years. He measured their feet every year when the BLM
gathered them up. He built a very successful business out of his
studies and has helped thousands of horses. See how squared
off the front feet are on the palamino? Gene will do that when he
shoes horses if they need it. He is real good about passing on his
knowledge. He calls his business, EDSS, Natural Balance and "New Hope for Soundness."

"In the time I have spent studying the wild horses and observing the natural process of hoofcare in which they undergo, I have gained an appreciation for the benefits of leaving horses barefooted. However, in a domestic environment, horses do not have the same opportunity to go through these natural processes. In this situation it is our job as hoofcare practitioners to help service those needs of the equine limb. Having an understanding of the natural guidelines and life cycle of the foot can assist us in servicing those needs and accomplishing our goals for soundness, whether horses are shod or barefoot."--Gene Ovnicek
Now he has a book out:

Hi Fh,,,
Your welcome to use the picture. I just wish it was a little more in focus. I find it really hard to get all the settings just wright on moving targets. I have a better camera now, It makes a big difference.

What's to be in focus? The horse looks in focus to me, and it the plants
are blurred a bit, well, that shows the speed of the horse.

Thanks for your permission. So how do I get it printed in photo quality?

You know, I don't think I ever appreciated the mustang until you starting
posting pictures of them. They have their own beauty.
