In 2008 I still was riding my horse. Ray Park and I could see mustangs up on the ridges while we were unloading our horses. We could cover a lot more country a lot easier than today. These mustangs are on The Cedar Mountain, north of Dugway Ut. We consider them the "Wild Bunch" because It's really hard to get close enough to take good pictures. The BLM rounds up and thins out the heard about every four years. These horses are in a place called Wild Cat. We haven't even seen a track there for two or three years.

We meet this little band coming over a ridge. I'm not sure who was the most surprised.

We stopped for lunch on a hillside in the cedars. Our horses were tied up a little way behind us. This lone black stud came to visit three times before he decided he wasn't welcome.

Would that red roan be a daughter off the blue roan mare in the last picture?

A fairly colorful bunch. :D

Very well could be,,, I don't know anything about DNA.

I thought maybe you had followed this band enough to know some family connections :D

I have to admit failure  The "Wild Bunch" are in direct contrast to the band that are 20 miles further south. We couldn't keep track of them because they moved around so much. They lived in rougher country and spent some of their time on top of the mountain. In the summer they moved up there to get away from the flies. We would see them standing around with their heads under the cedars.

The band we have kept better track of are a lot more tame, and a lot easier to find. For some reason they stay on the flats even in the heat of the summer. We can walk through the herd if we go slow and don't make any sudden moves. That band I have been able to document their family history. :D :D

wish Utah wasn't so darn far away :( ...........I'd go check em out........

Hey P&B,,, It isn't all that far. A friend and I made it to Deadwood in just two days. We wasn't in any hurry,, we drove through Fort Collins. I wouldn't make that mistake again.

We went looking for mustangs last Wednesday and couldn't find the regular bunch, but I did find about 60 head with glasses, at about two miles up the country. It would be a long way for you to come, and then have no better luck than we had.
