Hope you can keep all those tags straight.

Looks pretty good. I bought some Hereford cows last year and got my first baldy calf of my own breeding yesterday. Last year they were all Herefords except the last one born. The old boy I bought them from said they had no pride and they proved it with last cow to calve having a BWF. :D

In horse language that calf is "carrying a lot of chrome." He sure has a white face that should be easy to see in the dark.

You could always conduct an experiment with the two heifers by breeding one to a Hereford bull and the other to an Angus bull. The next year you could alternate the matings. Maybe you could apply for a grant to make your tests even more financially lucrative and beneficial to the ranching world. :)

Good on ya'!

Do you people bangs?

We typically tag heif left ear and strs right, as bangs tatoo 'shield' goes in right ear.

Having them different ears helps keep them straight and esp like when sorting in an alley when they're coming atcha.

It looks like things went OK and he looks good, even if he does have a little extra white. I have been getting that some this year also.

I wish she woiuld have calfed a couple weeks ago for you, but with any luck she will breed right back for you, whatever bulls you decide to put her with.

Congrats on your calving start, that looks like a really good bull calf :D . I think you should breed to a black bull, and shoot for a nice brockle faced replacement heifer  :D . Either way, I'm sure you'll get a good calf again.

I can't remember my first but I think I get just as excited at every one!

I tag my bull calves in the right ear and the hiefers in the left - - - makes it easy in the field or at the bunk the sort.

I feel I prefer the baldies but you need to do want you are comfortable with ( I thought I would love Charolis so I bought 15 bred cows a few years back and I only have 2 of them left and am going back to all black)

So just don't be hard headed if later you want to change for a reason you feel is good do it!

He is adorable. One good thing ...you will never get them confused with the "ranch" cows LOL
I like the baldies too and I have always like balck and white but they are yours. You do what you want and have fun.
I do have one question.....does it feel different if they are your as to the ranch? I know yall care for your animals very well I was just wondering if they are more special ......OK I will stop, I hope you know what I am asking cuz its not coming out right.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Msage...of course this little guy is more special!..lol Hubby and I have owned cows forever,,but this is the first time I have ever bought heifers with my own money and picked them out myself...and of course I can fuss over just 2 calves easier than a whole herd of em...I'm still thinking I want to keep the hereford line just for the fact that this whole project was to relive my g-pa's herefords and his brand...it's more of a sentimental journey for me than a money maker.

my thought are you can have 3 cows turn the bull in for 45 days and it will still take 60days to calve.
nice Hereford calves there Jassy
