My journal entry for Sunday, June 16, 1968

Dad took pity on me and let me sleep until 8:00, while he did Sunday morning chores. We then had a good quiet breakfast.

Dad and I took off horn weights on some young bulls while Mom and the girls went in to Sunday School [at the Merriman Methodist Church].

When we arrived, we had to conspicuously mosey in after a song. After a typical church service, the JO invited us out for dinner.

Ken and I listened to a couple records before dinner, and changed clothes. After a good noon meal, we kids started out for the rodeo in Uncle Stan’s pickup, with Ken driving. The first thing he did was back into our car and knock off a hood ornament.

The rodeo was better than last night, with a much bigger audience. Ken, John, and I sat together and watched the entertainment (both the rodeo and that which a few drunken cowboys provided).

Mom, Dad, and Nancy Jean went to Martin, Gordon, and Rushville looking at house remodeling ideas. The rest of us kids went home with Uncle Stan’s bunch. We played horseshoes, baseball, rode a bucket calf, and had an “endurance test” (crawling over trees, running up hills, walking tightrope, jumping off buildings, etc.

We got home rather late, so I am a day late getting this done.
