There's a nice young couple here, who are going to tie the knot and get hitched double this weekend. Both are from ranching families way back, both were among the first families to settle here. She's been attending NMSU in Las Cruces, NM; while he's been making a living riding broncs, shoeing horses and playing cowboy for her folks, as well as his own.

Here's their wedding present from us......just finished it this morning:

Pretty Sharp :!: Do you make or buy the base? Love the shade. My wife has done something similar with shades bought at Wal mart but has put brands on it.

TY, Mrs.Greg! I hope they do.......

Big Muddy, I bought the base (actually, the whole thing came together) and then just kinda did my "own thang" with it. It was a really hideous olive green when I got it.......I think it looks much better now.......:D

Ya know your onto somethin with these lamps. That's somethin that very few newly married couples git for a weddin present. Heck we didnt have any lamps until my mom n dad decided they were sellin the house and goin on the road full time.(think we'd been married 15 years at that time) Called me and said come get whatever it is you want...bring a trailer. LOL We went........relieved them of the things she wanted me to have, and some things that I always wanted to have when that time came. Then......................they didnt sell the house or go on the road. I asked if they wanted the stuff back.........mom said "NO" LOL

Great story, Lilly!!!!!!! LOL Maybe she just wanted her house cleaned out...........

passin thru......maybe......how "retroactive" are we talkin about?

ranchwife, me too............but probably wouldn't have done us any good, since we didn't have any electricity to run a lamp on........

I hope they like it.........the bride to be was at our neice's baby shower (she'd asked for one with pink pigs on it, since they were having a girl......she was a month old yesterday........) and she mentioned that might be a great gift........not sure if she was hinting, or making a general comment, but the lightbulb went off in my head..........

There's gotta be a story there, why didn't ya'll have electricity? Not somethin you hear too many people say these days. LOL when you said it, made me think of stories my grandma told me about when her n grandad first got married.

Lilly, we lived on Kit's Diamond Bar Ranch, over in the wilderness. We had a generator which we used to pump water, when the storage tank got low, or to do laundry, but that was the only time it got used. We'd hook up the tv and vcr and watch a movie while we pumped water, so it was always a night time job........

I think the end of the electric line was at Beaverhead, which was about 26 miles from the house at Black Canyon. It would have cost an arm and two legs, to get the line run on out there, since it would have had to go right along the road right of way.

We spent what was probably the best couple of years of our married life, there, without electricity or any of the other things we take for granted now. Maybe being without that "stuff" is a good thing?

I kinda figured it was someplace like that. Off out in the middle of no where. I like those kinda places. But don't know how long I'd last livin somewhere like that. LOL I'm a wuss when it comes to cold weather.
But I bet that made for some great memories. Not to mention a solid foundation for your marriage to start on.

Lilly, it wasn't too bad........we had a huge wood stove, you could fill it up and shut it down once a day, and it kept the whole house warm.......and it really didn't get that cold over there anyway. At least, it wasn't like here!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Hanta and FH. I'm toying with the idea of maybe doing a few and taking to some of the gift shops around the country, or doing special orders for Christmas. Haven't gotten much past the thinkin about it stage yet, though. :D
