I took five cows to the Burke Salebarn this morning.. After having a heck of a time getting one cow loaded off I went.
Stopped at Grossenburgs and got repairs for hubby, then traveled on. There was only two pickups and trailiers in front of me so I didn't have to wait long to get unloaded. Sometimes you can't get into the parking lot. Anyway after two tries to get backed up I suceeded and the guys helped me get unloaded. After teasing me. I don't know why everyone does this, I parked my rig and went in to the salebarn. The Burke cafe is like your grandma's kitchen. You can get anything you want if they have it anyway you like it. Todays special was beef and noodles on mashed (real) potaoes with a couple of salads and they had cocanut, rubarb, and one fruit pie I can not remember what. Anyway I had a can of pop and a barbecue polish sausage for lunch.. Damn good.. It was fun just to sit and listen to the talk and banter, course I bellied up to the bar...I mean lunch counter.
Some of the cows I saw sell were two really nice young jersey cows, which was a hot item and they sold for 52 and 53 cents. Lots of boner cows and cows that had lost there calves. Was quite a few great big charlais cows all from the same ranch that weighted 1650- 1675 and brought 53 cents. They were just huge...Also one speckled black and white bull with fairly long horns. I don't think it was a longhorn though. Our cows sold well. I was pleased so I waited for my check, gave the brand inspectors some guff and came home... Now for the lovely job of cleaning out the trailier....
