Hopefully these pictures do him justice. Even at this size his feet are as good as a just weaned calf.

the pictures of him are OK but I still haven't took one that really shows how good he looks.
The rest of my bulls are just that, bulls. Those four are, in my opinion, special

Nice to see recognizable brands, and bull name prefixes (JC, KC).
Keith runs his outfit the same way I run mine, and I still have a bull of his. The only thing I don't like about his sale is his auctioneer, I caught him speeding on me, started that bull over and I still ended up with it. After that sale and enjoying a refreshment, I questioned the auctioneer and he denied the speeding. I'll go back to Keith's sale in the future, but not without radar.

Doug, those are some nice bovines. Good for you!

Frank, I once thought that there were a few unscrupulous auctioneers that would actually take a bid that didn't exist. (GASP :!:  :!: ) Then I grew up and woke up. The vast majority of auctioneers and ringmen at these bull sales are providing a little (sometimes a whole lot) extra action in the way of bids. That's just the way it is. Some of the most boring auctioneers with the sorriest chant are sitting there picking everyone's pockets for a few extra dimes. But then, I guess you already knew that. Those rascals don't get hired on their good looks alone. :)

There's a ton of money to be made and they are professionals at their trade.

I've thrown the odd bid out with the middle finger if I feel I'm being played-nice to see a ringworm choke on his tongue. I have no problem at all embarassing the auctioneer and staff if they get caught pissing around. I only attend sales where they do as a spectator.

Oh, I know I've been run up many times, but when he denied it after the sale is what upset me.
The most honest sale and auctioneer I can remember attending, was Farview Angus. Francis always got his brother Roger Jacobs to sell 'em. Roger, in my opinion, is the best around.

I don't why accept behavior from auctioneers and ringmen that they won't from anybody else. If a truck salesman tried to run you up a few thousand you'd choke him out without thinking twice.

Why are we letting the breeders off the hook? They are the ones hiring these "unscrupulous" auctioneers. Do you think XYZ Ranch doesn't know that Mr. Auctioneer is going to take a lot of bids from the Rafter Bros. Cattle Co.? What is ethical about that?

Nothing is ethical about it-I buy bulls on order for people I sure don't want to waste their money also. The ONLY time I tell the auctioneer to bump me is if I have more than one order for same bull. I obviously have to buy it for more than my lowest order.

I certainly agree with you gentlemen, that auctioneers and ringmen should be held to the same high standards of honesty and integrity that everyone else is expected to live by. The local sale barn personnel know my cheapskate ways, and know better than to bump me. They also have heard my vocal opinions on the subject.

Quite a few years ago, a bull sale was in progress. The auctioneer tried to start a bull at $1500, then dropped to $1250. When he said, "A thousand dollars, who will give ten and a quarter," I raised my hand. Right away he had another bid of "ten-fifty," and he sure thought I'd give "ten-seventy-five." I didn't, and he was hung with the bull. I bought the bull after the sale from the owner for a thousand dollars. The owner lost $25. The auctioneer had egg on his face, and the reputation of the sale barn wasn't enhanced. Why does human nature many times try to "cheat the system"? If everyone displayed more honesty and integrity, the world would sure be a better place.

A few years ago a couple "newbies" to the sale business was having their second sale. They had a breed rep there to speak before the sale and put his spin on how great the cattle were. After the sale they were all smiles coming across the ring after thanking the crowd for their support. 2 minutes later they were in a screaming match with the breed rep when he informed them they still owned four bulls. He was fired on the spot right in the middle of the sale barn concourse. Unfortunately their sales since haven't done much more than keep one of the 2 in business.

Nice looking set of bulls. Love the thickness and length on them.

On the subject of dishonest auctioneers, both myself and my husband have been burned.
I got nailed at a furniture auction. Was placing a bid of $1000 on dining room table set and the ding dong got me at $1500.
Got him back later. I also got a bedroom set and he tried to cheat me out of a piece of it. My lawyer changed his mind pretty quick.
NR if I had known about the finger trick I would have used it on that guy.
