Myth: Schools Need More Money

And no, if a school is not providing basic services (like special ed.) that are required by law of most public school districts in the country, that is not a realistic comparison. ie, your perspective is off.

it is a public school ran by the district....so if it is required by law they comply,

.it has buses,,,,even late buses that are for those staying after school for extra curricular activities, etc, etc? (from FFA to golf and every thing in between)

they even run a night school.....with classes that both my wife and I have attended....(which has it's own budget and is self supporting)

but, if you would like me to reiterate my perspective......failing schools cost lots of money......successful schools are a bargain.........

If you will recall, last week you tried to say your k-8 parochial school was educating kids at $1600 per pupil.

I still stand by those numbers and the $5500 number.......

this is part of the problem....when a succesful school gets the job done with great numbers ,,,it must be short changing or not counting something..

Maybe the fact is that badly managed schools are just wasting so much money......so it seems unbelievable that a school can provide Top Quality education for a bargain price.....

I even backed up the $5500 per student cost for tech...

.and then it was the are breaking the law......give me a break.....it is a public school.....if they broke the law some one would have called the ACLU or some other bleeding heart NEA organization by now.....

They have every program I had at school and more....AP classes CP classes Honors....sports...dances,,prom.

By the way I didn't "try to say" I said..........

but if you can back up your arguement that Schools that spend more get better results.......

There are many ways for every student to get his college paid for.
#1 - Financial Aid
#2 - Grants
#3 - Scholarships
#4 - Student Loans
#5 - Hard work
#6 - Work

I agree there is plenty of ways to pay for College......but the free goverment money is not results based.....

#1, #2, and #4 and if the student could keep from getting kicked out of school the goverment would keep giving the money no matter how bad thier GPA was.....

as for #3, I saw many a kid blow a scholarship......

My proposal was result based get a B or GPA of 3.0 or better and the tuition would be paid for.....fail and it's on your dime......

Actually, if you'll note, I never disagreed with this.

I disagreed with your particular numbers. For example the $1600.
I think you've figured out by now that that is most definately not the actual cost per pupil for the school. It's just not possible.
However, you seem unwilling to admit it for whatever reason...

As for your tech school, I'm still willing to bet something is missing. They're a grant program or something. Or it might be due to the fact that it seems this school is only for the upper two years. Ie, it still can't be compared to a district that is k-8, or even 9-12.

There's something missing. I don't know the school district well enough to tell you what it is, and you're unwilling to admit that $6000 per student is unrealistic for a state with such a high cost of living...

So I guess that's where we sit. You thinking $1600-$6000 is perfectly reasonable for a school district and me who knows the school system too well to buy it.

Not sure where you got the idea it is only two years...it is a high school....4 years.....9 th thru 12 th....

so I could easily compare it to a 9-12 program......

My facts stand.....I even provide links to prove the tech school budget....so why is it so hard to believe a school can be well managed......

while I can't show the exact article (I looked) it is being held as a model of what school can be......

I even found the Per student cost at the K-8 school but why even bother to post it..
It's just not possible.

This goes to the same thing the article is addressing.....because most schools can't manage with small per student costs ,,,,it can't be done.

what would be acceptable proof? a link showing the projected cost in 2007 after a huge building project, and the hiring of additional teachers....oh I already did that.....

It's just not possible.

I hope thats not what your teaching your students.....
