Watching Canada AM {am news show} they showed an online poll. The poll was whether the money spent fixing the dome would have been better spent helping Katrins victims.31%was money well spent 69% was money should have been spent on victims. The comments were from both Country's,so both countrys had voted on this poll.

Being a huge sports fan, personally I think anything that takes your mind elsewhere and gives you a good feeling is a good thing,so although I didn't vote{didn't know about it} I would have brought the 31% higher.Whats you guys take on this???

That dome is vital to the economic well being of New Orleans.. Lots of conventions, sporting events et all equals lots of money for the city... Better of fixing that building than fixing/rebuilding the houses that are still below sea level... Oh well, a lot more money was wasted down there than we know about right now..

building a bunch of houses with out jobs is called a Ghetto.......
Exactly! The icing on the cake is when the government comes in to create pretend jobs for people that don't want to work.

Kinda reminds me of when the gov. bailed out all those Savings and Loans. I think it was under Bush Sr.

There are a heck of a lot more differences than similarities................ever hear of apples and oranges. Bringing this up trying to find similarities is only a futile attempt to justify N.O. debacle.

Could the $185 million spent to refurbish the storm-damaged stadium have been better spent on other aspects of the city's recovery from Hurricane Katrina?

Gov. Kathleen Blanco was a primary force in getting the dome ready for this game, listing it as a top priority for federal money to restore Louisiana's damaged government buildings. The Federal Emergency Management Agency paid around $120 million toward the stadium's repairs. The rest of the money came from insurance, refinancing Superdome bonds and a grant from the NFL.

but before we get into the issue of Bail outs of "private corperations" as TSR pointed out....

let this fact set in...."Ownership Louisiana", yep, the State of Louisiana owns the SuperDome....."The state owns the Superdome"...

so in effect the 120 million spent to repair goverment buildings is to repair the state (goverment) owned SuperDome......

do I fully agree with the spending spree going on......NO.

but just building houses with no economy is not a good decision either....
