Cattle and Calves: 1,575 Week Ago: 1,841 Year Ago: 1,270

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers under 500 lbs steady to firm, over 500 lbs 2.00-4.00 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls steady to firm. Trade and demand moderate on a good quality of feeders. Replacement cows had a strong showing of 400 head, with some excellent Brahman and Brahman crosses. Bulk supply Medium and Large 2-3 300-500 lb feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 17 percent of the offering, slaughter bulls 2 percent, replacement cows 25 percent, and feeders 56 percent. The feeder supply included 56 percent steers and 44 percent heifers. Near 10 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.

Steers: Medium and Large 1: 200-300 lbs 125.00-131.00; 300-400 lbs 105.00-115.00, few 117.00-125.00; 400-500 lb 95.00-105.00, few to 110.00; 500-600 lbs 91.00-99.00; 600-700 lbs xx.xx-xx.xx, calves 79.00-87.00; 700-800 lbs 75.00-77.00; 800-900 lbs xx.xx-xx.xx; 900-1000 lbs xx.xx; 1000-1100 lbs xx.xx-xx.xx.

I have a question. In the sales report it looks like cows of like quality and size, the bred cows were bringing more than pairs. Is that right ? And is that typical ? And if so why ? Would seem to me a live calf you can see is worth more than one in the oven.

Well when its Gray Brahmans it don't matter if they have calves or not. People just go crazy over them. I have seen people pay over a $1000 for open Brahmans to. Tiger Stripes are the same way to. I like all black cattle they can have all of those Brahmans.
