NAFTA Chapter 11

Well-known member
NAFTA Chapter 11 contains a variety of new rights and protections for investors and investments in NAFTA countries. If a company believes that a NAFTA government has violated these new investor rights and protections, it can initiate a binding dispute resolution process for monetary damages before a trade tribunal, offering none of the basic due process or openness guarantees afforded in national courts. These so-called "investor-to-state" cases are litigated in the special international arbitration bodies of the World Bank and the United Nations, which are closed to public participation, observation and input. A three-person panel composed of professional arbitrators listens to arguments in the case, with powers to award an unlimited amount of taxpayer dollars to corporations whose NAFTA investor privileges and rights they judge to have been impacted.

It's called Free Trade. A foreign company's business plan takes precidence over the laws of another soverign nation, whether those laws were put in place for the safety of it's citizens, protection of it's natural resources, or whatever. The Free Traders don't mention this part.

Another wonderful thing the Free Traders don't talk much about is the "harmonization" of standards. "Harmonization" is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Being a derivitive of the word "Harmony" It certainly sounds like a wonderful thing, after all, don't we all want peace and harmony? The truth is that the "harmonization" of standards is achieved by lowering them to the lowest demoninator. Sure, we're all the same to make trading easier, but what did we have to do to get that way?

The 'Free Trade Agreements' give us better/more access to their markets. They already had access to our markets!

Where do you think your computer was made? Components for that shiny blue Ford tractor isn't all made in America any more than under 100 hp Deeres are! Vehicles? Then lets move on to telecommunications, military, millions of things involved in everyday infrastructure behind the scenes. Everyone is a lot more dependent on trade than they realize and if you think it is only possible to survive on domestically produced goods you are living in the wrong century.

Being against Free Trade doesn't mean you're against trade.

professional arbitrators

Scary

Scarier

Scariest

Arbitration agreements do the same thing with the exception that

"with powers to award an unlimited amount of taxpayer dollars to corporations"

is changed to, "limits corporations liability" and skews the arbitrators to the interests of corporations who write the arbitration agreements.

What articles that you purchase are 100 % produced in the US without any influence what so ever by foreign produced hardware, machines or technology.

You may not give a tinkers damn about anything made outside the UNITED STATES but just like everybody else you use and consume those items every day. I think I saw a picture once of a New Holland tractor you were pretty proud of. That would be some imported junk?
