Why would we enter into these free trade deals ?What does the loss of jobs/dollars mean to the consumers of beef ?what does the lost spending power of the *US* housewife mean to the *US* cattle man ?
Maybe some one can explain how trade like NAFTA/CAFTA is good for anyone except the multinational corporations ?
What has these so called trade agreements done for the cattle man, except bring lower prices due to cheap imports, and the power to manipulate markets with captive supplies by the packing industry.
The real purpose of trade agreements is to allow multinational corporations to exploit the abundance of cheap labor, cattle, and the scarcity of taxes and safety regulations,it does little or nothing for the Cattle man................good luck

I wonder if one of the packer advocates could explain to us, why I would send my neighbors job to a foreigner, so I could sell him beef ?.......................good luck

Hay Maker, If we don't take back, the control of the cattle industry,in three to five years from now,the producers that are left will be contract growers for the multi-nationals.

I've heard that same fear mongering for the last 20 years.

This industry is controlled by the consumer.

Funny R-CULT hasn't tried to take them to court.

What about those consumers with money in their hands saying, "I'd like some BSE tested beef, please"?

They only exist in your imagination. Most consumers know that USDA knows more about food safety than import blamers.

So nobody wants BSE tested beef?

Nobody that I'm aware of except USDA blamers.

Intelligent answer. For your information, there are Japanese citizens wanting BSE tested beef. I guess you would call them "Bramers" since there is no "L" in the Japanese language.

It may very well be 20 years too late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If, as you have said, the consumers basis their purchases on price...are you the low cost producers in the global market???????????????????????

Sandcheska: "For your information, there are Japanese citizens wanting BSE tested beef."

That would explain why they are importing non tested beef from Canada and the US and why they are phasing out their own 100% bse testing program.

You have a hard time distinguishing between the government and the people, don't you? How do you explain the prefects telling the federal govt. that they're going to keep testing?

Sandcheska: "You have a hard time distinguishing between the government and the people, don't you?"

Another stupid argument.

If non tested beef was not being sold in Japan, it would not be imported.

DUH!

Let me guess, now you'll throw out the stupid pre bse export comparison argument ("ILLUSION"), which doesn't have a thing to do with testing and everything to do with Japan's source verification requirements.

Sandcheska: "How do you explain the prefects telling the federal govt. that they're going to keep testing?"

Another "ILLUSION"!

They are going to keep testing older cattle. They plan to phase out 100% testing of younger cattle. APPLES TO WATERMELONS AGAIN!

Any more "ILLUSIONS"?

SH, "If non tested beef was not being sold in Japan, it would not be imported. "

And a lot less would be consumed. I though you said the consumer had the power? How do they have power if the government won't give them what they want?

Sandcheska: "And a lot less would be consumed."

The supply of US beef that qualifies for Japanese export can't meet the demand now. You are wrong again, AS ALWAYS!

Sandcheska: "I though you said the consumer had the power? How do they have power if the government won't give them what they want?"

The government is giving them what they want. Age verified beef.

Next stupid argument!

And none of them want tested beef... I thought you said the "truth was your only bias".

Apparently those who still believe bse tested beef is safer are greatly outnumbered by those who understand the issue better than you obviously do.

Sandcheska: "I thought you said the "truth was your only bias"."

You've certainly never disproved that!

You've never proven or disprove any position you've held for that matter.

Now that you've flip flopped from stating that people that wanted tested beef only existed in my imagination to recognizing that they do indeed exist, let's get back to where we started and you can tell me how they have any market power.
