For quite some time, I have been struggling with a method for explaining the importance of agriculture to the general public. A student contest produced videos that can be seen on "YouTube" and each one of them does an outstanding job of presenting agriculture to the general public. First place was prepared, by students at the University of Missouri; second place Sam Houston State University and third place from Oklahoma State. The contest website featured a chicken, yet none of the winners featured poultry per se. They are all amazing when you consider that students put them together. Prize money was for the top 3 entries and ranged from $5,000 down to $1,000 for third place.
If this is what it takes, let's get some more contests going. How about a coloring contest for the very young? So far these videos have not had many viewers, but that could change with one person forwarding one or more to a friend. That is exactly how others have "gone viral." I learned about it from a friend. I'm forwarding it to my daughter to use in a conversation with her children. Take a look; I think you'll be surprised. Kids not only say the "darndest things, they do them!
