Dear

We are at a crisis. The lack of enforcement of our immigration laws has led to dramatically increased illegal immigration. This is unacceptable.

We are a nation of laws and they must be enforced. Those violating our laws must not be rewarded. Consistent enforcement of immigration laws would substantially reduce illegal immigration and greatly increase border security.

Earlier this year, I joined 96 of my colleagues in sending a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Bush calling on them to do the right thing and not bring before Congress any immigration legislation that includes rewards for law breakers. Unfortunately, they ignored us. Earlier this year the Senate tried to pass an immigration bill that would have granted amnesty to the more than 12 million illegal immigrants in this country. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) issued a report that the bill would cost billions of dollars and not stop illegal immigrants from coming into this country. Kansans did not need the CBO to tell them this - they knew it. Amnesty is a reward for those that have broken the law.

There are three steps to stopping the flow of illegal immigrants: secure our borders, require employers to verify employment eligibility and enforce immigration laws. At no point will amnesty work. Congress can and must demonstrate to the American people that we are willing and able to protect our nation's borders.

I am a proud sponsor of H.R. 4088, the Save America with Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) endorsed by Numbers USA, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and National Federation of Independent Business.

?The SAVE Act secures our borders by putting 8,000 more Customs and Border Patrol Agents on the frontlines and provides for increased use of equipment to monitor the border. It also expands specialized programs such as the Tunnel Task Force to stop illegal immigrants from avoiding capture through elaborately dug tunnels.

?The SAVE Act responsibly address the magnet for so much illegal immigration - illegal employment. It provides the resources to fix the current E-Verify system to ensure that it will in fact verify employment eligibility and it mandates its use. The bill requires the Social Security Administration to share "no-match" information with the Department of Homeland Security to crack down on identity theft. This should have been done long ago.

?The SAVE Act also improves the enforcement of our current immigration laws. It increases detention capacity and quickens the deportation process for detained illegal immigrants.

This is the approach that the people of Kansas have been asking for: secure our borders, enforce our laws and eliminate the jobs magnet.

Sincerely,

Nancy Boyda
Member of Congress

PS I did not verify this.............

Great notion, but if you don't actively support a better governance in Mexico of the Mexican population, you will always have illegal immigrants. The differences between our nation's populations are just too much.

Lou Dobbs has this point right.
