Just curious, did you happen to see any of the Piedmontese?

No I did not. I was there four days and spent a lot of time in the yards as it's my favorite place. I saw all kinds of cattle. I really wanted to see the lowlines and they had left the day before I got there.

I went to their web site and it's spelled right there. I suppose in all the hustle and bustle and excitement it was overlooked. Quickly look at it and hang it up and not even register. One thing it's not such a popular breed that a lot know how to spell it anyway. I figured out what breed it was even with the opps.

I guess the Piedmontese were there until the 15th and pretty much on the outskirts location wise. Had heard there were going to be some Naturaleans and crossbred steers too.

Sure would like to attend that event some year...

The big talk at the stockshow this year is the fact that they are looking to relocate the event. Either to another city or possibly still in Denver maybe out by the airport. Announcers at various shows talked about how lucky we all were to be here this year and should try to be there next if they haven't moved it by then. My Dad went with me and we walked miles in the yards as he drug me way in the back yard. Which now I'm glad I went. History is easily viewed in the back yards. The idea of the masses of animals that those yards have held is viewable as is the declining condition of the back yards. I have to say my favorite moments of the stockshow were down in the yards. I met a multitude of cattle producers and caught up with some admireable cattle producers I've known and just visited. It reminded me of why I love cattle and got me excited again to be involved in this industry.

That's hilarious about how they spelled Wagyu. They have a bunch of those at WSU. They sure as heck couldn't milk enough to feed a starving rat, but they had the kick you in the leg just right when you got too close behind them.

I miss going to Denver. I went with a Hereford & Agus ranch for about five years straight coming out of high school and during college. The beer garden on the hill was a good place to catch up before heading to the bar in the yard!!! Then it was off to god knows where??!??

One thing I don't miss is how sick you get when you're down there. "The Denver Croupe"

Glentworth,Saskatchewan was the North American head quarters for Piedmontese when they first came to North America. They never really caught on in ranch country. A rodeo contractor did try bucking a few at Wood Mountain stampede once. Didn't work very good. They might have bucked OK but didn't stand up to the strain.

They spelled it right on their web site...I'm guessing the sign maker screwed that up and it was too late to get it right before heading to Denver :)

I'd have done without a sign instead of having thousands of people think I could not spell the name of my breed of cattle I raise.

What'cha you wanna bet that this note, be it mental or not, is either in someone's mind or on their desk @ that ranch?

Mental note for next year:

#1...Don't wait to order sign 3 days before leaving town.

#2... Approve the sign design BEFORE it's printed

#3...RE-read sign @ before accepting

#4...!!! DUH!!!

Lets see, that outfit is in NM just outside Santa Fe...where likely they had the sign made.

End of defense :) :) :).....

I don't imagine they would be good rough stock!! They are fine boned and their dispositions are usually pretty mild.
The numbers are building but slowly there is still a lot of preconceived assumptions based on some isolated past problems that the breed is dealing with. I do think they have a place in the beef industry. Especially with the continued emphasis on healthy beef.
