It is amazing the transformation the country can go through in a few days. A few days ago, it took all the clothes you could muster to go out in the cold east wind to check heifers. Today a very light jacket was all that was needed. As my trusty steed and I rode through the heifer pairs today, ants were busy doing whatever they do on an ant pile  , grasshoppers were flying around, and it just felt like a good day to be alive. It reminded me why I like this business. But mostly I was just in awe at how the world can change in a few days.

Amazing. :D

And I even saw a few meadowlarks a couple days ago. That was as late as I remember them showing up in this country. But then my memory leaves some to be desired too.

It is a wonderful time of year to just be alive and able to go outside! Yesterday I saw the first turkey buzzard and for the past week or two, the tundra swans have been noisily making their way north again.

Talk about a contrast between beastly and beauty! The swans fly over by the hundreds and they sure do make a beautiful but plaintive cry as they go.

One thing that I noticed this spring is that the fields that usually have a lot of melt water collecting in them are already drying off, so the swans have fewer places to stop for a rest. Not sure what all that forbodes for both swans and our crops.

Geese and crows are the only ones I've seen so far, but it did actually rain without turning to ice this morning. :)

What I like is the longer days. Coming home in the daylight, and being able to see the deer on the road is nice. No more relying on spotting eyes reflecting in the headlights.

Another week or two and we may even be able to see the ground poking out from under the snow too. Boy, it's going to be wet..... Hubby pushed the snow away from the haystacks today so it wouldn't melt right into the hay. It's settling now from the moisture in it, but it's still a couple of feet deep on the level out there. Might get a bit more cross country skiing in yet.

Was cloudy all day yesterday, but no rain. Woke up this mornin to a light sprinkle. Funny how the dogs have decided that wet grass is a bad thing and they don't wanna go out. Temps are in the sixtys this mornin.
