NCBA goes head to head with report linking beef to cancer
02/11/2008 08:51:12

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is declaring victory after going head to head with a highly publicized report released at the end of October blaming red meat for some big health woes...

NCBA Nutrition Vice President Mary Young says checkoff money paid for a team of independent researchers to study the issue...

Young says the fear in the cattle industry was that beef would become a primary target for health advocates. Young says after that checkoff-funded study, beef was mentioned in news articles almost as an afterthought, with highly processed meats and alcohol taking the lion’s share of the blame.

Why spend check-off money for new research when there is already research to disprove these ridiculous claims by anti-meat activist????
Humans spent a couple million years with meat as a primary part of the diet without going extinct...there is something NEW in the diet causing our NEW chronic health problems. Sugar and refined food lobby has been kicking our a$$ for 100 years!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say since just after WW II instead of 100 yrs. Until then most foods were more local and less prossesed.

I believe the beginning of this battle started with the advent of margarine and Crisco in the early 1900s(I believe). To sell these worthless grain processing byproducts, the edible oil industry(that's an oxymoron) had to demonize butter and lard (natural animal fats)to replace them by claiming to be a healthy alternative. You are correct that blaming animal fats for our chronic diseases accelerated after WWII.

Actually I think they've got research showing pesticides (ingested through food) are showing up in more and more people cause illness and cancer. They've started testing children for it and also for metals.

Of course when we rely on 90% imports and they only test 1% no wonder we have more illness.... but I guess that reduces population and reduces greenhouse gas, etc....

Actually the fat content by using the wrong types to fry/mix foods in has contributed to much of the health problems.

Dr. Johanna Budwig came up with easy solutions for arthritis, cancer, stomach problems, MS, eczema by using organic flax seed oil mixed with cottage cheese..... but of course no pharmaceutical company wants to promote anything that cheap, they can't make money if they cure the problem so all they want to do is allieve it by medication. Actually it was an interesting read by Dr. Budwig. She found that people with cancer had low levels of two specific substances in their blood, phosphatides and lipoproteins. Dr Budwig also discovered that in general, blood that comes from a healthy person contains far greater levels of Omega 3 essential fatty acids than blood samples from someone who is ill.

If NCBA spends money on researching this when all kinds of research has been done seems kind of redundant.

Are you saying that the US imports 90% of its food?

Bill, get a life!

MoGal, you are correct about the pesticides(and other chemicals in foods),but think about this...your bodies immune system works much better when there is a good supply of short-chain saturated fats...as in butter. If your immune system has the proper building blocks(natural animal fats), it can better deal with these foreign substances.
Fatty acids(particularly essential fatty acids like Omega-3s) are very important to cell walls. Cell walls protect the cells from foreign substances and, very important, cell walls are the nerve endings that are responsible for communication throughout the body.

"Phosphatides and lipoproteins"...compounds that contain fatty acids.

Redundant wouldn't be the word I would use!

What concerns me RMac is a good site that used to be a place to go for information has BEEN turned into a pi$$ and moan site by a select few. Some of the posters who I did have respect for have also been dragged into the slop.

Have you ever stopped to think about the people who used to frequent this site and wonder why they left? Some of them still do PM and for many of us that is the only reason we return at all.
