Per, NCBA is a professional organization for cattle producers. We pay dues, determine policy, etc.
NCBA also is one of many groups doing contract work for the CBB , governing body of the Beef Checkoff.
CBB is comprised of more than 100 representatives of virtually all national cattle organizations in the country, including breed associations, state cattle orgs., livestock market assoc. members, (big mistake, IMO, why not our feed, fuel, dealers, bankers, whoever sells us services, too?), elected or appointed by their respective group.
Contracts are awarded on a cost recovery only basis.
Cinch, many affiliates of NCBA have offered discounts to members. Just remember, to get a $1,000.00 discount, one must spend several thousand dollars.........such discounts generally are a token amount and a nice perk, but certainly not the only reason anyone joins NCBA.
I join Beefman in inviting anyone to attend the convention and learn why the members appreciate NCBA. There are likely to be several issues discussed and plans made for the coming year. CattleWomen and CBB meet at the same place in the same time frame. THere are great subjects in the Cattlemens College workshops, committee meetings, and in the Trade Show.....and more!!!! It is great to learn from discussions with cattle people across the nation and around the world, too. SD will have strong representation there, too.
