At one time (60's) I had a Runnin Pardner - His brother was Killed at Wouned Knee - he left here ready to Kill - we were really worried about him - Nice Guy - Lost track of him, then he showed up a Salinas in the late 70's - Had changed his name said he was a Chief to keep the youngn at peace.

When I knew him he was Tuffy Sierra

V_Key has California Indian Blood - "Ohlone" the spanish called them Coastanoans (Coastal People)

Great Pictures
What kind of a Camera do you shoot?

Old Dog my dad was in the hospital in Rapid City last winter and there was an old indian moved into the room for a couple of days. When I was in the room he was either asleep or had the curtain pulled. The doctor came in once when I was there and asked him how he was doing and if he had watched some big football game the day before. He said no watching football was the most boring waste of time there was and it was no good. He said the only sport worth watching was rodeo. He said he had a grand son that was rodeoing and I'm not sure but think maybe he said his name was Smiley Sierra.

The pictures I took were taken with an olympus OM1. I used to take quite a few pictures but seem to have gotten out of the habit.

As far as the Indian tribes not getting along- Blaine Nordvold is Lakota/Norweigen. He's a good cowboy poet. He was asked to attend the big gathering in Elko, quite a few years back. He told me, "I told them I would share a room with someone, and I sure hope they didn't put me in a room with thaqt hanl Real Bird as he's a Crow and I'm Lakota and we are mortal enemies, so I'd have to kill him. " He was smiling and laughing as he said it, so I know he was just making a joke.

He also said, " I'm Lakota and Norweigen and my wife is a full blooded Navajo. You don't want to make my kids mad!"

My husband and his brother were also rodeoing at the same time as Tuffy and didn't have much use for him. They caught him switching numbers from the bull my husband had drawn to the one he'd drawn that wasn't nearly as good. The judge switched them back, chewed Tuffy out and let him ride anyway. It tickled the rest of the cowboys when he bucked off and hubby took home the buckle.

We haven't seen Tuffy since, but I'm guessing that Smiley is probably his son. I think he'd be too old to be a grandson.

WONDERFUL PICTURES!!!!!! and a great story to go with it. thank you ever so much for taking the time to post them and type the story. That's what I love so much about Ranchers.net, everyone is so willin to go the extra mile to share things with all of us. Almost like gettin to take a mini vacation to somewhere we might otherwise not get to go.

Thanks again Tumbleweed.

Lilly I'm glad you and others enjoyed those pictures and the story along with it. I seldom post anything on here but have enjoyed reading the posts and seeing the pictures of others.

I have enjoyed reading and seeing pictures of how you operate down in east Texas. When I was driving truck I spent quite a bit of time in Texas. It was one of my favorite places to go. I liked it because it seemed like so much of the country was ranchy and rural. But the best thing about Texas was the people. Seemed like there were a lot of good people there and they were friendly. Don't know if I passed through or close to your area but may have. I know I was over in Haymakers country around San Antonio.

Thanks for all your pictures and stories Lilly.
