Did I ever say anything to the contrary-I assume that county is named after fighting Joe Hooker or something like that. Which county is Hyannis in-spent an hour or two in that old bar with all those rodeo pictures in it.

Hyannis is in Grant.... The school on the east side of town my family, even my mom and dad graduated from. My sister who graduated in 72 was the first graduating class... My folks live in Hyannis and the house they live in is one of the oldest houses in Grant county. The ranchers would send their pregnaunt wives to stay at the house my folks live in untill they had their babies....
We have our own celebrity... Chuck Hayward... His saddle is at the muesum there in town. And it is wonderful.....I even have something in the muesum...Also the courthouse building has a really cool hereford bull on the outside well worth driving one block south of the highway to see...

I wish I could find it, but somewhere I have a photo of a sign a neighbor of ours had. It was basically a small version of the basic green, reflective highway signs (like in NR's pic), but said "S. Smith next four exits."

You had already been beating down a number of miles worth of Sandhills county road and crossed a few autogates before you ever saw his sign, and the four "exits" were his driveway, the shop's driveway and two windmill trails.

There's a picture of our old rodeo judge Mac McKie riding a saddle bronc up in the bar in Hyannis-he said that oldtimers rodeo down there was quite a deal. Whatever happened to the esteemed Vic Gentry-we stopped at his place to check out that Gelbvieh bull Jaguar that he'd leased to ABS years ago. Alot of Canadian money went to the sandhills in the Charolais business lol. His brand should of been double hook and crook lol.

Crooked Vic is in Colorado some where. He ended up taking several ranch families to almost bankrupt with his designer partnership..... Was pretty scarey for some families.....
But there is so much better things to talk about:
The first OLd Timer Rodeo started in Hyannis Doris and Stan Mckillip and S and H rodeo stock.... Had to be fourty years old then to enter and differant age groups compeited....They have changed the name now to I think Senior Profesional rodeo.... Or something to that effect.. Quite a change from the begining, not sure if it is the best but oh well....
If you're ever through hyannis stop at red's corner my dad is usually there drinking coffee or playing cards and he loves to visit....
They say the little town of Whitman had 100 bars at one time and was the last stop for the train... used to load alot of cattle out on the train years ago. I don't think there is any of the correls left...It is also said that the ranchers that started up the ranches were people who were ran out of other towns and were given a one way ticket and that there was alot of bootlegging during prohibition through the sandhills... Soapweed can prolly tell us more and Been There too...
