Hey there. We're heading for a bull sale in Maple Creek, and want to go down tomorrow night. Never been there, don't know where to stay, and can't get a hold of the guy putting on the sale. Does anybody have any recommendations? I've tried a couple hotels I found on the town website, but talking to their staff over the phone was enough to make me want to take the pup tent.

Who is putting on the bull sale? You may want to stay in Medicine Hat, it's less than an hour away and they change the sheets every week. Just an idea.

Yep-- been a lot of years since I spent a night in Maple Creek- but I remember quite well back then the HOTEL we stayed in (and I think the only one in town) was more like one out of the 1800's- (that definitely had old spring beds( that every movement in could be heard thru out the motel  ) and bathroom fixtures from the 1800's- no showers)...But that was almost 40 years ago....But they did have an indoor hockey rink  that they thru dirt over the top the ice and had an indoor rodeo.....

Heres what google says is available.....Who has an angus sale there?

Really Oldtimer - Google asked "Who has an angus sale there?"

It's a Galloway/Angus sale - Fred & Maxine Noad, Freeway Angus & Galloways. I'm going for a couple Galloway bulls if the price is right.

And I found a place to stay. Found another link for the town that had more hotels on it, and lucked out. Got a girl who spoke the language well enough to make me suspect she was born & raised there, and she was very professional & courteous to boot.

Thanks anyway though, appreciate you lookin'.

What's a good price for a Galloway bull, are they yearlings or two year olds?

Depends if you're the buyer or seller! I'm buying this weekend and selling next weekend, so this weekend, a good price is $1500-$2000, and next weekend a good price is $3-4000. :p :p :p

Kidding. Rkaiser has been averaging around $2500 or better I believe in the past couple years, and that's where I've been selling some bulls off the farm. This is all on rising 2yr olds, 20-22 months of age.

Have fun and good luck buying. Is the whole family going?

Absolutely!! That's why it'll be fun! I asked the wife if she felt like coming with, and dragging all 3 hoodlums on that 3.5-4 hour drive(one way), and she said, "Yup, we'll just pack snacks, blankets and toys. If they get anxious on the way, we'll stop and play."

In other words, we're going down tomorrow night, so we have plenty of time to get there, and plenty of time Saturday morning for Papa to check out the bullies. Of course, Ronan & Bodi will be in charge of the selections.

Since i have been gone i am probably to late but you really should spend the night at the Commercial Hotel. You'll be talking about it for years.

I wish I could have made it. I was sitting beside Fred and Maxine in Brandon when they bought that Stockman bull. :)

Just thought I'd fill you in BMR, their sale went real well. The Stockman bulls were very deep and stout, but the bulls they had out of their newest herdsire, the BJ's Predator bull, were easily the best Angus bulls there.

We bought a real good Galloway bull from them, and got him for a VERY reasonable price, so I was very glad we made the trip. I thought he was easily the most complete Galloway bull there, but he was a frame score too small for the other purebred breeders, so they passed him by and bought bulls the size of the Angus ones. Their loss is my gain, since he's exactly the frame size I was looking for. I'll post some pics once Fred delivers him. Now all I need to do is find 4 more just like him.
