I think the first 'Encore' bull came from Larry breeding the mother back to the son. :???: As I said, he knows more about Angus genetics than most anyone, so he knew what he was doing. He got tired of the 'performance train' in 1979, so got off at the station.

His cattle are very predictable in their genetics. He doesn't worry about EPD's or such. He said that if you go to a good bunch of cattle and buy the middle, you will get the same genetics as the outliers, which never breed back to themselves anyway. He knows.......he said he bought high-gaining bulls at the test stations for years.......and they never bred back to themselves. They did about breed his cattle out of milk, hence, Shearbrook Shoshone came on the scene. SS was the no. 1 milk bull in the breed for a long time, but along with that came some udder problems.
He used to not sell yearling bulls as he didn't like to feed them hard., Don't know if that still holds true. He had a whole pasture full of 2-year olds the times we were there and they were like peas in a pod.
