Finally got our new Dell computer up and running....the last one was 4 years old...had been used and abused and was one of those bargain/basement brands from costco!! Anyway..I have one problem...I do not have any of the e-mail addresses from all of my friends/family here on ranchers, so if any of you are reading this, my e-mail is the same and I would really appreciate it if you would send me yours...again...so I can continue our correspondence!!!

You can download the info off your old computer and upload onto the new one if you are using the same mail software.

Hopefully, the daughter will know how to do this since I am probably one of the most computer illiterate people you will ever meet...heck, I'm lucky to know where the keyboard is!!

Question....................what is a keyboard????????? :)

Pssst.
It's the thingy you are pushing the little buttons on that make the letters, that make the words, appear on the screen. Kind'a like a typewriter.

I wanted to hurry and tell you so everyone here wasn't thinikin' you weren't very smart, as I had the same problem understanding all this computer loingo, until my daughter in law helped me out. :)

HAROLD

I was having trouble with my computer.

So I called Harold the computer guy, to come over.

Harold clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.

He gave me a bill for a minimum service call.

As he was walking away, I called after him,

"So, what was wrong?"

He replied, "It was an ID ten T error."

I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired,

"An, ID ten T error?

What's that . in case I need to fix it again?"

Harold grinned.... "Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?"

"No," I replied.

"Write it down," he said, "and I think you'll figure it out."

So I wrote down .

I D 1 0 T

I used to like Harold.

sorry for sounding "blonde" ,but the old computer is pretty much caput/DOA/now being used stricly for games in the kids's room and no longer hooked up to the internet at all.....bummer, here in the sticks can only afford one phone line (dsl and such way tooooo expensive), so how else can this work for me??? If you used outlook express for email on the old computer, you can still open it up without bein online and get to the addresses. If it was an alternative email, then you'll hafta git it back up online to get to em.

here in the sticks can only afford one phone line

"If you can get you old computer back on-line" email any file(s) you want to your email address on you one phone line - Then pick that email up with your new computer.

V_Key and I have had 3 computers on one phone line at the same time - (Mac, PC, and Lap Top) (2 Daily) I can be on this site while she is on 'My Place. com or College work - each computer has it's own 'foot print'.

Some one can drive around with a LT - and fine a Wireless signal and get on line through that location (we have Free Securty to stop that) ISP next door has paid ads and their wireless is free to the world.

Phone line was to slow - out ISP is on the same property 2 doors away - I do some work for them sooo they let me run a cable 100' over the roof to their "Main Frame" - faster than DSL - (2) Mac's are on our in house "Air Port Wire Less" - (Table Top Airless to AirPort to that cable to ISP) (Lap Top to Airless to AirPort to again that Cable to ISP)

V_Key can take her LT to College with free wire less (No Ads) or Free Wireless (with ads) at Coffee Shops, most of down town San Jose, San Francisco, "A's" "Giants" "49er" Etc.

She can sit outside or anywhere with 150'± of our house and use our wireless - If we have a Questions (If InterNet working) we can tell either computer to connenct to ISP in houes Free wireless (With Ads) my Table Top gets a weak signial she/we can move with her LT to a strong signal area

We can take her LT to Barns&Noble and use their In House Free Wireless and EMail information Home to ourselves.

If your on line, there are sites where you can pay to save "back Files" of you Programs or Work Files - I'm new at this but V_Key uses "Mac Files"

Wireless is "COOL" V_Key can/does email her College work to Herself or Me at home and I/We can print it out here.

Thats My "NewTricks" - I'm slow but I'm learning with V_Key's Help - As a :cboy: I    it

"IF" your online. Well duh, if she wasn't online, she wouldn't be at this site would she? :???:

Or am I missing sumthin'? :???:

I think if you go to your old email site, on your new computer, it will still have you registered as a user and all of the email sites should still be there. You threw out your computer, not your emial service. But I'm kind of new at this, so I could be wrong. But I can go to someone elses computer and put my name in and it's got the same email adresses as on my computer.

I think. :???:

OK, I'll just shut up now!

Yes you are missing sumthin - we're talking about getting her old computer back on LINE - she is on line with her NEW computer

That MAY be right if you use an OnLine Mail Service like AOL - I'm talking about where your ISP is your email serverier - as I'm understanding all her "Addresses" are in her "Old Computer" and she can't get to them

If she is using an on-line email service (like AOL or Yahoo) she should be able to log-in using her old pass-word and all should be there.

A friend asked me what I knew about computers?
1 to 10 = = I started at -25
Years later I'm up to +2

I don't know how many were on your email list but if it's a bunch, it might be just as simple to hook the old computer back up to internet and email them to yourself. Take a lil time but that'd be the simplest thing to do, I'd think.

Yahoo Email is free - - in the future you may want to keep a copy of Bookmarks - Addresses - and other information there - Open an eMail account there - then eMail that information there - then Red Flag it so you don't "Delete" it
