Good pics JB. Good strong looking mares. Is that a freeze brand on the bay's rear? What is the sires background?
Yup, a freeze brand, not mine but the folks who raised her. The sire has mainly cuttin' blood. Smart Little Lena, Peppy San Badger, Dry Doc on the papers. The bay mare goes to Colonel Freckels. The sorrel mare is a Peppy San x Orphan Drift. The red dun mare with the older colt is grade, but her family has been on this place for years. Little bit of everything in her. Her sire is a stout made, gentle dun. Totally unflappable except for hair on tanned buffalo hides, on the ground! Only thing he's ever got excited about.
Her dam's sire is my favorite old bay. Cowy'est horse I've ever ridden. I am riding the dun mares full brother and just love him. Active, eager and a good mover. Only problem with him is he's about 15.3 and hard for an old, short legged, fat man to get on, unless I step him up alongside something. But once on top, we really cover some ground and he's got his daddy's disposition with some of his grampa's cow in him. Just a real nice horse.
Gary Carter wants him, but I ain't too sure I want to give him up, tho' I have way too many young ones around here.
